Please help identify S&W Top Break gun

I work for an estate sale company and have encountered a gun that I'm having difficulty identifying. Its a top-break S&W .38 Serial number 540344. Please see pictures attached.

Your revolver is a S&W .38 CF DA 5th model. These were made
from 1909 to 1911 (serial number range: 539000 to 554077).
As to value, I will leave that to others.

Is this called a Schofield by chance?

Absolutely Not! The Schofield was a completely different model.
The Schofield was a larger size and .45 caliber. Also, the Schofield
was a single action and not a double action.

Hi There,


Determining value from a photo is tenuous at best. Assuming
the revolver is all matching and in good mechanical condition
and has not been refinished, my personal opinion estimate
is between $400 to $600.
