Please help me decide: 28-9 or 627 pro?

I think I'd go with the new 627.

Or I would look for a blue 27 from the pre-lock, pinned and recessed days. That would be a better collectible than either the new 627 or the new 27 -- and it will work for defense too.

Another issue is S&W isn't giving the new classics away, and you might find a nice older 27 for no more money.

Also, a 28-2 would be another good choice.

You have one of those high quality problems where whichever decision you make will be a good one.

My recommendation is if you want a new N frame, get something with an 8-round cylinder. If you want a Model 27, look for a nice used Pinned and Recessed one (27-2 or earlier).

Thanks everyone. I made the decision just now. I was at my LGS and there in the case was a factory new M627 Performance Center with 5 inch barrel. I checked everything (endshake, carry-up, lock-up, barrel centering, trigger), and it was absolutely tight and smooth. I'll be picking it up in a few days.
I was hesitant on the 5 inch barrel, but to be honest, it balances almost like a 4 inch because of the slab-side barrel and sloped shroud. I'm looking forward to this one. It'll make a nice companion to my M657 performance center 2.6 inch.

Anyone have this particular one?

If you fellows are big enough to hide an N-frame on you I don't think many folks would mess with you. But if you are going to carry one get the 8 shot. More is better especially in a fire fight. Its better to cut a 2x4 too long than too short.
