I was just curious what all other then paper you guys like to shoot for fun.

I typically always bring the milk jugs of water and any old melons I can scrounge up, and I always like putting something small like clementines out at the 150-200 yard range for those long distance challenges, however I figured I would just see what all inventive idea's where out there of things other people like to shoot.

Targets

Charcoal, ice (use those 4" x 4" tubs), balloons (filled with water they'll stay put)

I have metal prairie dog targets for .22s, they are a blast to shoot, shoot the 2 outside ones and they rotate up, then hit the center one to reset.

You can get a case of walmart brand soda pop pretty cheap. Leave the full, unopened cans in the sun for a while then shake them a bit and you have a fun interactive target.

Paint balls at 25-50 yds.Small enough to be hard to hit and they make a nice mist when you hit them. This was taken right after I made the stand.Doesn't look this nice now.You can make it interesting too.Make it a pay target if you hit the golf tee.Helps pay for the paint balls.

Well, there were certainly some inventive rifle shooters on our range who must have gotten very bored with the "paper and cardboard targets only" as posted at the range entrance.

Used the wood target sticks as targets, and when they were gone, shot the metal bases apart with FMJ military ball.
Took the metal poppers from a pistol range and shot holes in them with FMJ.
Dragged the tables from the firing line, turned them over at about 15 yards, and shot them full of holes with an AR (the empties were still in a pile).
Took the padded chairs from the firing line and shot the backs and seats out of them--at about 40 yds.
Took bowling pins from a pistol range and set them on top of the 100yd rifle berm and then shot them.
Used aluminum and glass cans and bottles as targets and left the mess on the range.
Dragged a metal-framed Bianci barricade onto the rifle range and shot the metal frame apart with an AK at about 12 foot range (left pile of brass).
Took AK and AR rifles onto a pistol range marked "NO RIFLES ON THIS RANGE" and shot holes in steel plates, barrels, and walls marked "Do Not Shoot."

Does a lobotomy come with each AR/AK?

I hope I'm preaching to the choir on this forum.

My work changes over computers regularly. We pull the hard drives. The disks are perfect. Make a nice "PING" when hit. Jump high. Soft enough they don’t ricochet.

OKFC05, please don't blame the AR's and AK's. It's the idiots behind the guns. So I take it these, uh, jerks did that to the range when no one else was around. BTW, they weren't rifle shooters, they were criminals. Yes, you are preaching to the choir. Sorry to hear that idiocy happened.

My group shoots milsurps first then takes the empty cartridge cases and stick them neck first into the sand. Trying to hit those with a 22 at 10 to 30 yards is a nice challenge.

Whoa OKFC05, That'd get your butt thrown out of my club in a real hurry. I take it no one knows who did this, they didn't use a "sign in sheet"? Too bad, they need to be gone.

I have made a bunch of metal hanging targets for .22. They are just small square's, circles, triangles I picked up here and there. I have a couple of the target you shoot then hit the last one to reset them. I am thinking about getting this one.

ETA.

I am an AR guy. I am NOT like the IDIOTS who tore up your range. I do not think you meant all AR and AK guys are like that. It is unfortunate that we have to deal with people who have the IQ of a rock. They should not be allowed to have guns let alone use them

Buzz.

I got some 7" AR500 targets from ebay. Hung them from chain on a metal frame and they have been perfect from .22LR to 7.62

Going to order more so I don't have to much to clean up at my shooting area.

This is probably the biggest reason it took me this many years to warm up to any thing that looked like an AR.

I would never condone destruction of property or the immaturity of acts like you described. I enjoy more then punching paper but even a boy scout will tell you leave it better than you found it. I am sure this is a frustration that many have too... Sorry to hear about that.

How can you blame that kind of activity on the GUN??

I'm thinking that was written to just get a rise out of some of the other members. I just don't think anyone with that collection of firepower that he mentioned would be that irresponsible. I hope anyway. :)

No not the gun by any means, I saw a few people doing acts with their rifles that I found very disgusting and I distanced my self from that image. A few years ago A friend handed me an AR-15 and thats when I was able shoot with more respectable people..

As always its not the gun, its the people with it.

Sorry for any misunderstanding.

Sounds like the Range Master wasnt doing their job.

Balance a golf ball on the neck of a plastic pop bottle. Got to knock the ball off without upsetting the bottle. Guess you could use a golf tee as well, but you can see the bottle a little better.
