I have a chance to pick up a 5 month old Plott hound from a rescue but I don't know much about Plotts seeing as how I always ran Treeing Walkers on raccoons. The breeder wanted to destroy this Plott because being Buckskin in color but had a black tail which I'm told is a no-no. This makes no difference to me seeing as how I'm going to hunt this hound and not show him. The pup looks in good shape, tail held high in gate, nose to ground and has all the good trates of a trailing hound and comes from a reputable breeder in Kentucky that breeds for both hunting and showing. Breeder agreed to save this pup only after it was neutered to insure the black tail trate was eliminated. This is of no concequence to me and actualy saves me the trouble of having to do it in the future.
The question is, how do these Plotts interact with families? My Treeing Walkers were excelent hunters and also loyal family pets. Are Plotts the same? I have hunted with Plotts but never had the chance to see how they behaved with family members around the house. Being somewhat aloof is a trate of any good coon hound of any breed but being able to listen to comands from not only me but my wife is a very important trate that would be manditory if I get this Plott. Any input from you long time Plott owners/runners is appreciated.
