ive been in hospital for too long, going on three weeks on the second round. I've been soaked with a anti biotic solution that is holding the disease at bay, best case. They are delve loping cultures as quickly as possible. I can't stand on my own feet and have to be carried to the toilet. :o I'm currently on 13 liters of oxygen.
I feel surprisingly well except for physical strength. Even the pretty nurses are not as attractive as they once were.
How do I get out of this chicken joint?

Had the big P 4 times. I wish you well and hope for a quick recovery. It's never been easy getting over it.

Best to you and yours,

Rachel

That stuff laid me low twice in a row. Took all my strength and then some. Hang in there. Our prayers go out for your complete recovery.

Pneumonia is a tough disease. No one "catches" it, as it is always around, and we are exposed to it regularly. It waits for an opportunity to take over when the body's defenses are compromised by one thing or another.

My Dad got it when he broke his hip. He did beat the big P, but never recovered from the hip injury.

The sickest animal I have ever seen was when one of my horses got pneumonia as the result of a throat injury that was caused by a bad choke. He lost about 400 pounds, and looked like a fur covered Halloween skeleton. He got so bad, I could not find enough flesh to give him an IM injection of antibiotics.

When his body finally rallied, the turnaround was dramatic. I did my part with plenty of high quality nutrition and fresh water, he did the rest. That was 15 years ago, and he is still going strong.

Stay positive, and fight it. The cure will come from within, external intervention will help, but you WILL cure yourself.

Sorry to hear this, Ron. 3 weeks in a hospital is pure torture, I know. Hope they get it turned around for you soon. Keep the faith.

Prayers and good thoughts to you. Had it twice,no fun at all. You will be okay.

Isaiah 53: 4-5 Mathew 8: 17 I Peter 2: 24 Read, meditate, pray and confess these Bible truth's until you see your self delivered-then out and home you go! All the best.

Prayers for wellness. First thing I'd do is get out of the hospital -- they're germ factories -- and get home care, if possible. Nothing can make you sicker like a hospital...

I can relate, having just spent 2 months between hospitals and rehab facilities. No fun at all and a bit scary at times.

Give it your best effort and I'm sure you will turn it around. Best wishes for a complete recovery.

Hang in there, RonJ.

Pneumonia is a tough disease and it gets tougher the older you are. It's opportunistic, it just lurks out there waiting for an opportunity to kill. It preys on the young, the weak, and the elderly.

My best thoughts for a full recover.

Godspeed your recovery. After you're better, talk to the doc about the pneumonia vaccine.

Never had pneumonia before. Last October Doc says I'm too old to not have shots. So I finally get immunized against.....WELLNESSSS!!!

I've have had it twice in the last year or so while getting chemo.... The head oncology RN said it is essential that as soon as what you are coughing up changes from being clear/white to being a funky thick, green chunky monkey stuff , you get to your doctor & give a sputum sample that they can test for the pneumo bug & then culture it so that they can find out which anti-biotic works best on it............

Both times my doc immediately started me on one antibiotic, then switched to another after they found which drug worked best by culturing it. It took several days for that, I want to say 3 or 4 days to culture the sample & test the antibiotics both times I had it. Neither time did they have to hospitalize me.... but I called the clinic after I hacked up the first big glob of the green chunky monkey stuff.........then went in to give them the sputum sample........

I'll put you in our prayers sir........when they figure out which drug to give you, it won't be long before you get back home.....in the mean time, enjoy the food & ogling all the pretty girls..........

It's odd how that works sometimes. My wife got a Shingles shot a couple of years ago and sure enough she got the Shingles.

I got the vaccine too and had no problems. I wasn't going to because I sort of thought it was a scam to panic people into getting another shot. I had a long discussion with my doctor and he suggested I get it and get the pneumonia vaccine as well. We have long discussions whenever he suggests a medication and sometimes we agree that I don't need it.

That's why I trust him when he says I should have a vaccination.

There is some risk, usually very low, with any vaccination. None of them are 100% effective and there is also coincidence.

OTOH, I didn't get the flu vaccine this winter because I read enough to know that it was only going to be 30% or so effective. Flu vaccines are an educated guess as to which strains are going to hit us in any year and last year the epidemiologists guessed wrong.

What we really need is a universal flu vaccine, but with some many strains, it's hard to make one.

Hope you recover fast Ron. I had double pneumonia when I was eighteen. Hosp stay was eight days, had oxygen upmy nose, ivs in each arm,and had to take a battery of bad-tasting meds each hour for two days. The upside of things, they had good food,a channel that played Westerns all day,and good looking nurses.
