POA/POI and +P Bodyguard 38

Thanks! I know.
S&W needs to recall all of those bodyguards and really try figure this one out instead of sending us replacement guns and hoping it will solve the problem.

P.S. I shot my friends steel snub nose S&W without the laser and I hit the bullseye every single time at 25 feet.

Looks like I'll be calling S&W tomorrow, just finished my second range trip with the bodygaurd .38 and was extremely high and left... model 66 was right on target... never tried the laser as it was bright out and even at 10 yards it couldn't be seen. Hope they can fix the high and left from the iron sights....

After digesting all of these posts, I must conclude that there is some flaw in the manufacturing process of this model. Replacing all of these weapons with an IMPROVED one (NEW dash #) would be the cure, but not palatable to S&W due to the cost. My advice ? ? You have some options: 1. Sell the BG and buy a 642 or 2. Stick a set of CT Lasergrips on it or 3.Leave it be. You are not likely to be using sights in the heat of a close distance confrontation wherein you need to shoot or be killed. You will most likely pull the weapon out, point it, and blaze away. I own and carry a 642 w/LG-405s on it. It shoots great groups in the black at SD ranges with the laser, and rings 10" steel plates at 75 feet with the iron sights. IF I was makin' the choice, I'd cut my losses and get a 642 set up like mine. It's a VERY versatile system, and one that you will enjoy shooting and will give you peace of mind. I DON'T think you are going to get satisfaction from S&W in this matter.....

I'll be sending my SECOND BG38 back to Smith&Wesson. I'm really tired of it - I just want my money back at this point.

I decided to call S&W customer support line one more time and got lucky this time!
The rep told me they are aware of this issue and he said that it has to do with the way they screw the barrel in the frame. In a lot of cases the barrel became tilted by a small amount - enough to give this particular deviation of about 3'' at 20-25 feet.
Interesting...

Same issue here. Sent it in and will get a replacement. No reason given for the issue, but he did confirm that the S&W shooters replicated my POI/POA findings, high and left with several loads.

Will try and post the new groups when I get the replacement.

I hate to resurrect an old post, but I was about to buy a BG38 from Buds, has S&W fixes the problem yet? IF not I'm staying away
Thanks

I'm sending one back today with the same problem 10" high 5" left at 7 yards (4 diff shooters). The dist had 80+ in stock when my dealer ordered it so it might be an earlier production, but I've only had it 2 weeks.

I thought I'd throw my experience in here too. I love the design of the new Bodyguard .38 so was really excited to get one. My first copy had a serial number of: CPX4xxx. That one printed quite high and to the left with standard and +P ammunition of weights between 125-158 grains. I sent it to S&W who advised that a new copy would be made for me, mine was "beyond repair".

The new one arrived (after having to pay yet another transfer fee...), this one's serial number is: CRL6xxx. While it printed a little better than the first, it's still WAY off. About 4-8" inches high at seven yards (depending on ammo), and well over 18" high at 15 yards... I have adjusted the laser to drill the target at 15 yards, it does so easily. But the iron sights are a useless guess. My M&P 340CT, on the other hand, can easily destroy a six inch paper plate at 15 yards with the irons - nice!

I didn't want the expense of another transfer fee again if I sent this new copy back, but it's now developed another "trick" and is going back. Sometimes the cylinder doesn't rotate when the trigger is pulled. This happens about once every 2-3 cylinders and happens either on the first shot or somewhere in between. I've marked the cylinder when it happens and it's no particular chamber - happens to all of them. I've NEVER had this happen with any of my S&W revolvers, and I've had over 20. This, in addition to the aiming problems, have killed the gun for me.

I have NO confidence in it now (I used to carry it concealed) and plan to send it back to S&W. Hopefully a refund/credit can be issued this time. I love the ergonomics of this new design and all it offers, but until the bugs are worked out, well, I'm done with it!

I have had issues with the BG38. Mine shot to the left, 3" at 7 yds. I sent it back, got a replacement. The same issue.

I then had a left handed friend of mine shoot it right handed and it was dead on. He is a bullseye shooter. He was dead on.

So, I swallowed my pride, and started shooting the BG38 s-l-o-w-l-y and it was dead on also. I started to speed up, and lo and behold, my shots are beginning to center.

My theory is the there is something in the let off that causes one to jerk the gun to the left at the moment of ignition. I have no such problems with other J frames or the Ruger LCR. So, I'm going to do a lot of practice. I love the feel of the BG38; I can shhot 100 rounds with no ill effects.

Got mine about a month ago. It shoots 1 inch left at 10 yards. With 158gr it shoots 5 inches high, with 110gr FTX Hornady Critical Defense it is right on but still an inch left. I'll live (no pun intended) with 1 inch off at 10 yards for a PD revolver.
