I am waiting on my CCW permit. Until then, can I pocket carry my J frame in my domicile in Arizona? I'd just like to be able to get used to the pocket carry while waiting for my CCW permit.

Robert, I don't even live in Arizona, I've never even been there, but, damn it, it's your right!!!!!! Yes! The best testing ground for any carry set up is the home before it hits the street. Sorry if I'm overexuberant, but no law abiding American should have to ask this question! By all means yes!

You're pocket carrying something smaller than a 92 or a Ruger 44 mag, right?

A J frame is perfect, but believe it or not....my buddy, "Haysacks" Hunter pocket carries a Ruger 101 with ease. A benefit of being 6'6", 290 lbs.

You can concealed carry in your home and on your property in Az without a permit.

Arizona remains among the dwindling number of free states. You don't need the state's approval or permission to carry weapons, concealed or otherwise, in your home or business premises. Practice away...

You can carry it all day long in your living room and bedroom...even your den or basement....just don't take it with you in the bathroom...that's illegal in most every state.

Pocket carry is not just for tiny guns....IF you choose the right clothing.

My old Swedish grandmother used to say, "There's no such thing as bad vedder (weather) there's just bad clothing."

Same with carrying guns. The Cabela's Seven Pocket Hiker pants (and shorts) have great pockets that allow easy front pocket carry. I'm sure there are many others that are also good.

The reason people have trouble with pocket carry is so many are wedded to their tight Levis.

In concealed carry, style must give way to function. My Glock 26 vanishes nicely in the right front pocket and I can carry up to an L-frame Smith snubbie if I wear suspenders (I rarely do it).

Pocket carry is the only way I can carry in hot weather and I find I rely on it for the better part of the year just because it's so simple and easy.

Don't underestimate pocket carry. It's the best all-around solution as far as I'm concerned.

Most every state allows concealed carry on land one owns or leases. It is usually black letter law contained in the state code regarding carrying a concealed weapon.

I always carry at home, inside or out, usually J frame in front pocket, same as when I leave home and only difference is a reload in pocket when I go. In TN, one's home, business, and property such as a yard or farm, are all legal to carry on. I carry even in the back yard tending to the grill in the summer, one never knows, even a stray dog might wander up and be aggressive. I would hope you are legal at home, if not there, how could one even possess a firearm at home? You might do a web search for laws in your state. Often, states have a website under a " .gov " that will have current laws after following some links. Above all, just be careful if you are as it seems, new to handguns.

Don't you know what your legal responsibilities are regarding CCW? Please don't take this wrong but... if you're serious about carrying, you really need to find out what the laws are for your state yourself! You need to know those laws BEFORE you start carrying and not rely on what anyone on the internet says.

Try a Bianchi inside the pocket. slicker then snot inside and grip pebbled on outside. I do prefer an ankle holster when I'm sitting if I ain't wearing cowboy cut jeans. When I pocket carry I wear what I want with the Bianchi and it's only about 15 bucks.

By all means!

Get an Airweight J frame, a pocket holster and PRACTICE carrying it until you always act just as normal as if it wasn't there at all.

You can sometimes easily spot a new concealed "toter" . . . for their body language gives 'em away! After a while you'll learn that a J-frame disappears and you'll start wearing all the time without ever being "made."

Or . . . if not a J-frame, get something else of your choice! It will work . . . until you discover an Airweight is best later.

Many of us have to go that route, me included!!!

Good luck!

Go ahead and practice at home, just not in the Head as SIP wisely recommends.

Gun should be unloaded and you should practice drawing from a good pocket holster, i.e. Kramer's pocket holster. AS I said, UNLOADED and your finger should never enter the trigger guard until the pistol has cleared your pocket and all parts of your body.

I'm sure somebody is singing the high notes for not having heeded these precautions. Don't let it be you.
