Pocket revolver suggestion (no j frames)

I pocket carry my Detective Special when dress requires. To be honest, I would really suggest learning to love the Jframe or learning to love IWB. I don't shoot the little guns well, so I choose IWB, which really shouldnt be that hard to cover with shorts and I assume a t shirt. You be able to carry an easier to sight and shoot pistol....and you don't have to sacrifice a pocket.

Funny. I been carrying a 4-inch K-frame in my Levi 550 front pocket all day. The grip sticks out a bit, but I'm wearing a light jacket which hides it. It's not something I normally do, but I just slipped it in there today. It's surprisingly comfortable and the weight is not objectionable.

Anyway, what I wanted to suggest for the OP, if he's concerned about round count, and laying down a base-of-fire, he might consider a 7-shot L-frame. It's only a smooch larger than a K, and guns like the 2 1/2-inch M686+ are universally accepted as some of the best revolvers ever made.

Take a look at the Kimber K6 revolver, 6 rounds of .357 in a package about the same size as a J-frame. I had a chance to handle one a couple days ago and was impressed with the build quality and smooth trigger. The price was absurdly expensive at close to $900.

Maybe I'm weird but as soon as I can get a load that I am satisfied with I'm going to carry my 629 3in RP. I have tried pocket carrying it and it is no problem.

I'm looking hard at the Rossi 461/462 (blue/stainless version of the same gun).

Same size as a Colt Detective Special - but chambered in 357 at about 1/3 of the price.

I know, I know, it is a Rossi, but I have had nothing but good experience with Rossi firearms. PLUS they now have the same lifetime warranty as the Taurus line since Taurus now owns them.

Bonkers, thank you for sharing your perspective.

Of the Liberty 78: "When tested through denim cloth into ballistic gel, this load penetrated almost 8 inches deep and produced a wound cavity 6 inches in diameter."

Ballistic personal defense weapons work by penetration. 'Almost 8".' That would be 7". That fails FBI protocol. Miserably. Liberty 78 is a gimmick.

Are there and S&w revolvers with 6 or more rounds that can be pocket carried. I wear shorts 90% of the year and would like more than 5 rounds in one pocket.

Not a S&W but I sometimes carry a Ruger LCR (5452) in .327 Federal Magnum.

Way more power than a .38 special & a lot less kick than a .357 mag.

The little Ruger LCR in .327 Federal Mag. is very light to carry, holds 6 rounds of .327 Federal mag, is quite accurate, by far has the best trigger pull of any of the smaller revolvers.

The only down sides are: finding ammo (I load my own so that isn't a problem) & they are loud (like REAL LOUD) but you can practice with .32 HR mag ammo that is easy to find & much quieter.

Folks always looking for a magic bullet. Penetration and placement is ALL that matters in handguns. ALL!!

This is the correct answer.

The Mika holster is well worth the wait in my opinion.
I always use mine when pocket carrying my 64, it does a great job of protecting your pocket and keeping the revolver from shifting around.
I like it so much I ordered a 2nd Mika pocket holster for my J-frame, and I plan to get more for other pocket shapes.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to getting the Mika and trying it out. I use a DeSantis Superfly for pocket carrying my 637, but if I like the Mika as much as you do I guess I could be persuaded to change! LOL!

Funny you should say that, a DeSantis Superfly is going to be my next holster purchase, I have a Nemesis already and the quality is excellent.

The $900.00 eliminates me ... especially when I could get a 686 7 shot for less.

The Kimber comes without an internal lock and MIM parts. If it lives up to the hype $900 is not that bad, I have more than that invested in my 66-2 with a few modifications. I certainly won't be one of the first buyers, though.

You'll like it I think. The quality is the same as the Nemesis or maybe a little better. I looked to see it DeSantis made one for the 64, but I couldn't find one so I went with the Mika.

Maybe consider an m&p sub compact or shield....of course it't not a revolver, but bigger than a j frame and ppocketable/practical....good luck, sounds like a conundrum...

Six-shot goodness, old and not-so-old. Just to help things along.

Favorite six-shot goodness of all.
Colt Detective Special from 1966. Hides like a J-Frame. Shoots like a service revolver.

Smith & Wesson K-Frame snub goodness.

Purchased new in January of 1996, a 2-inch Model 10.

Early '50s Military & Police.

Colt detective special, mod 66 2.5" etc etc. And even though were in the revolver section of the forum, think about the semi auto pocket guns g43 =6+1 and muchsmaller than a j frame. Lighter, thinner reloads faster, good cartiridge for a short barrel... it just makes more sense to me.

But before I bought or thought about anything I'd put 2lbs+ in my pocket for a couple days and see. Personally I can't stand weight in a pocket carry gun and have opted for the lightest gun I can find. May not make a difference to you but I simply wouldn't carry a k frame in my pocket.

Ammo is readily available on the Internet. I live in a fairly small town and have found it at my LGS. I've also found some locally on Armslist and Florida Gun Trader, where I've also picked up quite a bit of .32 S&W long and short for practice. You're right about the trigger; it's got to be one of the smoothest double action triggers I've ever shot. I do pocket carry it sometimes, but I want to find a good IWB for it.
