Nothing but polarized for me... usually amber, but sometimes green. I am hard on sunglasses - they go swimming without me or get left places about three or four times per year so I stick with the cheapies. $5 - $20. C.B.

I buy my glasses on-line from www.Eyebuydirect.com.

They are very good and very cost-effective (read "cheap"). The glasses have all been of solid quality.

But alwasys order it with the scratch resistant coating (it really, really works).

They give you a choice of tint from 20% to 80%. I wear 20% brown when shooting. It increases the contrast on the target almost as well as the orange or yellow shooting glasses. It is the same scrip as I need for using the computer and I'm wearing them as I type.

I just checked. For $25.00 I can get a pair of glasses, with UV coating, Anti-scratch coating and the tint of my choosing. I have to add $32.00 if I want it polarized too. This would include corrective lenses, but if you don't need the correction, just leave it blank.

Note: I just looked again and they've added yellow as a tint option. It was not there the last time I ordered.

Wouldn't be caught dead without polarized sunglasses. I have a pair of Oakleys for golf and two pair of glasses from Bass Pro Shop.

I wear high quality polarized lenses for driving, fishing & boating.
There is a huge difference in visual acuity from cheapie lenses. Low quality lenses will block light alright, but you can't see detail.
I like Costa Del Mar & Serengeti. Maui Jim's seem pretty nice too. You don't need to spend a fortune, but find some decent shades and you will be surprised at the detail that you can see.

I see plenty of older folks rocking the cheap (as in free) shades that the ophthalmologists send patients home wearing after dilation. Heck, I can't see much through those...and my eyes are younger. How are they going to see a dog...or a kid run into the street?

Oh..I don't wear polarized lenses for skiing/boarding, cycling, motorcycling, etc.

Polarized lenses are the BEST! They not only cut down the light , but they eliminate the glare which is actually worse. Been wearing them for 30 years.

Got to agree with Chief38 - they really cut down on glare. I'm snow blind and can't get around in the winter without them. Been wearing polarized now for 40 years + or - and won't go back to regular sunglasses for any reason.

I always wear the chepos....break and loose to many to buy expensive ones.

Polarized sunglasses are great for me and Swisswife while we're in the mountains or driving the car. But one thing is pretty annoying: My LCD-display of the digital-camera turns completely black, when I turn the camera 90 degrees from the horizontal to the vertical position. The "fence" of the sunglass won't letting in any light from the display.

Pulling off the sunglasses is now routine in this situation, but still annoying.

Shortly after Mr. Land invented polarizing filters he approached the automobile manufacturers.

His plan was to polarize all head lamps 45 degrees to the right, and also polarize all windshieds 45 degrees to the right. The rear glass would be polarized 45 degrees to the left.

He wanted head lamps on the cars to be like 200,000 candle power--bright enough to blind you if it hit your windshield. But because the lights would be polarized at 90 degrees to each other the on-coming lights would appear quite dim, while your own lights would be reaching further than ever. It was a great idea (it still is).

I would reduce the need for highway lighting and would improve highway safety.

Of course you could not wear polarizing sun glasses with that kind of windshield or you would see nothing.

Polarized lenses are the best for fishing and driving, especially for driving at night! And I also have some photochromic lenses. So I don't need to change my glasses when I come indoors. But all my glasses are not branded ones, I got them from zennioptical.com. Cheap prices, but definitely not cheap quality.:D

Prescription lens required..had Polaroid sporting glasses [ fishing and shooting in bright Sun] made up. Glare reduction minimizes eye strain for me and being able to see below water surface is an added benefit.

Only downside as noted is in seeing digital readouts in vehicle or range finders.

Usually have WalMart Polaroid clip-ons for daytime driving, haul out the others when hunting, shooting or fishing..or a day at the beach.

My 63 Galaxie has a lot of reflection on the windshield from the dash. The polarized glasses removes this. Other than that I never use them.
