.357
In early '70s bought my M-28-2 4" blued gun (before polished) Main frame of it used in the gun bottom of photo.
.357 to .44 special
After a year or two opted for the .357 barrel to be lined and cylinder (in very bottom of photo) opened to .44 special and kept it that way for many decades.
.44 special to .44 mag
A year or two ago switched out the .44 special with a chrome matching.44 mag barrel and cylinder. That's the way it sits now in this photo. The frame is NOT Chrome it's polished metal on this gun.
.44 mag to .45 L.C.
Recently purchased a blue-worn .45 L.C. 8 3/8 barrel ($75 ). In the photo it now sits polished under the revolver. Sending the .44 mag cylinder out to be opened to Long Colt (this way know the exact detentions using for the .45 L.C.).
Reason converting to .45 L.C. is have an actual M-29 in top of photo but no M-25.
The frame of the M-28 conversion gun , when highly Polished this way has a tad deeper tone verses cylinder that is chrome. The 8 3/8th barrels can you see the difference between the Chrome and polished 8 3/8th barrels, no ?
Knowing how to buff, can get these results for a finish of about twenty dollars spent to do the entire gun. Have some profound before and after examples but this is more than enough for a single post.
Last would like to say, except for the early '70s Dirty Harry rage to .44s none of conversions I did were done out of necessity, it was all just for fun and knowledge.
