My new stainless SW9VE is coming in today. I've seen some photos on here of polished slides, and they're beautiful.

Is this something I can do at home by hand, or do I need to take it to a gunsmith? (I don't have an electric grinder)

I believe the previous owner had Smith & Wesson polish the slide and reciever. The neat thing is that they were able to re laser etch the factory markings after polishing.

I just repeated the words of the previous owner. I really don't know, but this picture was in the group that he sent me. What to you think?

Not sure, in the first pic the gun does look a bit more polished but could be lighting, the stock photo on the S&W website shows polished sides, so I don't know. Maybe it was already polished and the previous owner had it repolished because of handling marks or something.

Here is a link to the stock photo http://www.smith-wesson.com/we...angId=-1&isFirearm=Y

Very nice looking slide.

I have some Simichrome knife polish. I may try that. I wonder if Brasso would work?

The previous owner mention a factory coating on the sides,"like a powder coating". Perhaps this is what was buffed off. But I would have to agree with you that sides do look polished from the factory, perhaps then coated.

Looks good, and anything you can do yourself is better than sending it out. I have a rifle I sent out to get blued, and got a feeling its going to be summer before I get it back.

Not a sigma but I like the two-tone look. My M&P9c that I polished with Mother's mag polish while I watch T V.
