Polymer cases?

It was tried 25 years ago with a plastic case and aluminum head. They didn't do too well, maybe just ahead of their time. The polymer style looks OK so they might generate some interest.

I worked and became friends with the son of USAC's founder, and he gave me a bunch of their .38 Spl case components in various stages of manufacture, and a handful of their proprietary bullets. They went on to do some contract research with FN for the production of 5.56mm and Cal. .50 ammunition of similar construction, but that had a plastic web between the powder chamber and the base of the bullet to help maintain chamber pressures. This web was, of course , blown out when the ctg was fired, so when reloading, everything fwd of the primer pocket had to be replaced. Again, not commercially successful.

Hard to imagine getting the wall thickness thin enough and strong enough to allow for the bullet diameter. It better be cheap!

The LGS has several hundred boxes of the USAC bullets at $6/. I bought some of the .38 Sp 158 gr. swc last month and tried reloading them in standard cases. It was a nightmare of monumental proportions. A waste of time and money.
