Polymer gun cleaners

I own a total of one polymer gun which is a Sig P365 - that's it. Because of that, I am no "expert" on polymer. On my Sig I use G96 Synthetic or Breakfree CLP as I do on all my other guns, as well as on this one; all is good. The two CLP's above are listed as OK to use with polymers so I never sought out a specific polymer product - if one exists at all. I have never seen any gun oil, solvent or cleaners specifically for "polymer only" but that doesn't mean they don't exist - I am just not aware of any.

If you are still in doubt, just use a regular CLP or product that was designed to be used on all conventional guns and safe for polymer too. Today, the majority of them are - but again, check the label.

I certainly would read the labels on any products you were considering and if necessary, call the manufacturer to double check.

Why not field strip and clean the plastic without the slide on? Also, it doesn't take many manoeuvres to completely strip the frame; then, you can use dish soap and water, and scrub it real good.

Ballistol is a non-petroleum oil developed by the Germans in the early part of the 20th century. They wanted an oil that could be used on guns and leather. It certainly won't harm a polymer frame. It also makes a great cleaner for corrosive priming or black powder when mixed with water. I have been using it for about 10 years.

About Us - Ballistol

I have regularly used a spray product by Birchwood Casey that specifically indicates it is polymer safe. I dismount the slide, spray out the frame and then blow dry it with compressed air. It also works fine on metal, but is SAFE for polymer, which some sprays intended for metal guns are not.

I've used it for years on my polymer Ruger KP-95DC and 22/45 pistols.
