I thought I would offer a little brain teaser to test your Smith & Wesson knowledge.

Can you identify which Smith & Wesson model these magazines are for?

They are Model 41-1 .22 Short magazines

Good work s&wchad.

They are actually Model 41-1 .22 Short magazines and, unlike the regular Model 41 magazines, they have a stainless steel rod that guides the spring and limits capacity to 5 rounds. The clue in my original post is the pin of the stainless steel rod sticking through the hole in the base plate. The regular Model 41 magazines have a blued steel pin/plug instead. These can be hard to come by and while they may look like normal Model 41 magazines, they are actually quite different inside. Here are some photos showing the differences.

The first photo shows a disassembled Model 41 magazine with metal follower on top with the disassembled Model 41-1 magazine on the bottom. Note the shorter follower and smaller diameter spring with stainless steel guide rod on the Model 41-1 magazine.

The Model 41-1 magazine only holds 5 rounds of .22 Short. Note there is only a "5" on the side.

Here's a photo showing the bottom (with base plate, spring and follower removed) and top. Note the internal modifications necessary to handle the shorter round (U-shaped piece of steel at the front and steel plug at the back).

Last, this photo shows a regular Model 41 magazine on the right for comparison. Note the difference in the followers.

I hadn't seen this detailed before, so I thought I would share with everyone.
