Pop Tarts

For grins I did a web search for "Pop Tarts: toasted vs untoasted".

I stumbled into a feud that rivals a caliber war. Wow! Folks take this stuff seriously. My Pop Tart stance will remain undisclosed as I would like to remain neutral.

Pick a side, coward! :D

I'm of the untoasted, but frozen crowd.

College roomie was an advertising major. He came home one day from class with pre-intro Pop Tarts. Idea was to help prof and Kellogg to whip up some advertising copy on the cheap. Four of us tried them, and found them disgusting, like frosted cardboard. See what we knew?

Just wanted to note that you may have the first college poptart story, that's something.

My only good one was when I was in college in the northeast. It was the middle of winter, our thermometer read fifteen below zero when it was time for me to go to work my ER shift. I put on my heavy parka, put my hands in the pockets...and found pop tarts. Then checked the other pockets. Pop tarts. A different flavor in each. My roommate had been high as a kite the night before, but denies it to this day. It was quite the gesture, and I enjoyed many of the pop-tarts before vacuuming out the crumbs with a gas station vacuum.

I almost always eat my Poptarts untoasted, not because I prefer them that way but simply because Poptarts are what I reach for when I need a quick breakfast and toasting them as well as waiting for them to cool takes time.

I keep meaning to try a frozen Poptart which some folks swear by, but I always forget to throw a pack in the freezer overnight, and knowing me I'd probably forget that I put it there in the first place by morning anyway. Still, I'd like to try it just in case it's one of those "stranger than fiction" moments like Dr. Pepper tasting best at neutral room temperature.

Grape or cherry. Frosted. Unheated but not frozen. In the car or truck. Eat the unfrosted edges first. Then eat the remaining frosted portion with the frosting side on your tongue for maximum flavor. That's how I did it when I was 9. Don't eat them anymore like I don't eat sugary cereals.

I also can't believe how many responses this has gotten!

Nibble the edges first, eh? That's the ONLY way to eat a Poptart! Toasted and buttered, with a big glass of milk. Yeah, I dissect Oreos too before eating them. Also with a big glass of milk. Good thing the closest store is closed for the evening and the next closest one is 12 miles away. Otherwise, I'd be fetching Poptarts and Oreos.

I will toast occasionally. 90% untoasted, 10% toasted, 0% frozen

Folks in this thread are waaay too concerned about the Nutritional Value of Poptarts.

Honestly, nobody eats Poptarts because they're extremely nutritious, they eat them because they're quick, easy, convenient, and because they taste good to them.

Besides, there are a lot of foods that are more fattening and less nutritious than Poptarts, foods that I'll wager that many of you folks who've been calling out Poptarts lack of nutrition eat.
I was thinking of this post today.
We were on our way to my wife's first radiation treatment and we stopped in Virginia for gas, it's 10 cents cheaper per gallon than West Virginia and it was on the way.
Anyway, while there I decided to have a gas station corn dog. Figuring it'd be fattening and not very nutritious I decided to check the calories and protein content. 270 calories and 10 grams of protein as opposed to 370 calories and 3 grams of protein for 2 frosted cherry pop tarts.
Kinda surprised me that even a gas station corn dog's more nutritious than a coupla pop tarts.
After her radiation treatment it was off to the gym for spin class. That corn dog was burned about half way through class and the pop tarts woulda been burned shortly after.

Walmart stocks extra Pop Tarts when there is a hurricane or other big storm approaching. They are actually a fairly good disaster food since they are individually foil wrapped and can be eaten hot or cold.

OTOH, when someone says "Pop Tart" for some reason I think of Britney Spears. ;)

When I worked midnight shifts on Guam I would get to the Mom and Pop store across from my apartment just as they were opening for the morning. A box of frosted blueberry Pop Tarts and a bottle of wine were waiting for me on the counter. Eat, drink, sleep, repeat.

Makes me think of Cheers:

Norm - Coach, gimme a beer

Coach - isn't it a little early Normie?

Norm - put a cornflake in it :D
