Silva Compass, A Yuletide Tale (pics added, post #11)

I use a compass a good bit when I'm bird hunting. I carry two--a Suunto M-2 orienteering compass and a pin on Coghlan's that looks like a ping pong ball. It's attached to my strap vest. The Suunto is a nice tool, with scales and a built in magnifying lens.

I use the pin on mostly and the orienteering compass if I need to shoot an accurate bearing off my GPS. The pin on tells me which way is north if it's cloudy.

I've got an old Silva 35CL I used for years--the mirror fell out and it developed a bubble that makes it almost unuseable. I guess I should send it back to Silva but from what I understand the compass rose itself is made overseas now, and the mirror sight is of limited functionality where I hunt most of the time.

A pin on compass is the cat's pajamas for navigating on the move. I've had a couple of Marble's brass pin ons but the quality has gone downhill--they're made overseas now and the ones I've had developed the dreaded bubble.

I think I'll treat myself to one of these:

Compass. Compasses, Brass Compass, Hunting Compass, Hiking Compasses, Compensated Compass - Tru-Nord

Made in Minnesota, great quality, compensated for declination if you want (I don't--I hunt too many places), NOT liquid dampened so no bubbles, great stuff. Brass, baby. Or stainless steel or titanium if you wanna get weird about it.
