The kraut with turkey thread got me to thinking about having porkchops served with applesauce. My family has always served them that way. When I bring it up around friends, they always think I'm nuts. Is this a regional thing? Most of my family is from Oklahoma and Nebraska.

Pork chops and applesauce were often served together when I was a kid in East Central Illinois.

Yea it's regional, though I thought it was limited to Idaho and Montana.

That's how the wife and I serve it in my house. Might even have some tonight with the porkroast. :D

Now that's funny - we're having kraut with spareribs in a few hours - braised together for about 3 hours low & slow @ 300 deg. Yes, we always have the applesauce (and mashed potatoes) with them. I like grilled ribs too, but there's something about a rainy, cold day that just calls for the comfort food approach.

Edit: Ok we had the leftovers today (the next day) - better than day one - really...

I'm from N.E. Oklahoma and pork chops were always served with applesauce. Guess maybe it is a regional thing, but in reading the posts in this thread it seems like a pretty good size region.:)

Meaning "cooked pig served with applesauce". Everybody knows that.:D

Porkchops come with white pan gravy. You can't put applesauce on your taters.

Didn't the English put a big apple in the roasted pig's/boar's mouth to prepare it nicely for the table? Maybe the Hawaiians and Samoans beat them to it (can you get apples in Samoa?) In any case, I think the pork-apple relationship is a long-term thing.

I believe the Hawaiians put a big pineapple in the pig's mouth. Well, at least they serve pork with pineapple. It's a pretty darn good combination.

Crystal hot sause on the chops.Apple sause on the side just to make it complete.Don't forget the early peas.
Yummy!!!

Merry Christmas,D.G.

I lived all over the place as a kid and my late mom always served applesauce with pork.
Back in Michigan she kept on doing so.
We have carried on the tradition.

Both my wife and I grew up on pork chops and apple sauce, in fact we had some 3 days ago....very good eating......
