My permit card has my address on it,thing is I moved out of that county and into another so both the county and address are now different.

Do I have to change it or is it ok until i renew it?

Might want to ask someone local, as the laws are different everywhere around the country.

In some states (like New York), they're not even consistent within the state.

Never, EVER infer one state's gun laws from another's, or even from one county to another unless (as is the case in Ohio and Pennsylvania) there's a legal basis (state preemption) for doing so. And even in Pennsylvania, there are state level deviations just for Philadelphia.

Know the law, obey the law.

I could probably just call the local sheriff, been digging for a few weeks and just decided to ask here, never covered if you move in between counties at the CCW class.

Krull, thee best advice is with the organization who issued the card. Meaning your state, looks like beautiful West Virginia. Most states have a web site, where you can actually print up the law/ordinance/regulation. Let's just say for instance the law's say that you dont have to change the address until experation. Print this info off of the goverment web-site carry it with you. This way your protected by chance someone in L.E. questions what you are doing, you can politely ask to show them your proof. Of course you want to have correct picture I.D. with where you actually do live now. In lot of places, you only have 30 days if you move, even just down the street. 26

All the above advice is valid - call a local authority (preferably the issuing authority). This is one area where you do not want to make mistakes as the results could be loss of firearms privileges.

In Louisiana, you would be have commited a crime. Any change of address is reuired to be reported within 30 days. Not doing so will cause your permit to be suspended and you might not get it renewed when the State Police learns of your failure to properly notify.

If the permit expires, the holder has to return the expired permit because the State Police say the permit is their property.

In Nevada you need to notify the local Sherif of the address change, and get a new card. You have 30 days, do not know about your state I would check to be safe.

All good advice,I asked as I hunted through the laws and the CCW law booklet on the state site and I found el nada on the subject.

I actually just noticed a week ago as I was cleaning out my wallet and happened to look at the card and saw it has my old address on it,thought I should be looking into this.

Just another thing that has to be done.

I moved from NC to VA awhile ago. How to I go about changing over my CCW permit fom state to state?

it would be best if you got advice from the sheriff in the new county...........in illinois things are different from one county to another.

play it safe.............do it right.............its probably just a matter of paperwork

I just went through this in Georgia last week. Wrote an email to the Probate Court in my county, and received an email with a phone number to call. I was told that the proper procedure is to wait until the next renewal to update. Two things: I moved within the county and my driver's license has my new address (which must be updated within 30 days).

This definitely is not a stupid question! It made me check mine since I just moved (same city, diff addy). I printed forms and need to stop at the PD and mail a copy to the Firearms Records Bureau. Id like to thank you for asking this question.............

Here in WV, I think you are okay until renewal time.

The Sheriff is tasked with the issuance, but it is still a "state" permit valid for 5 year throughout the state. The final $15 goes to the State. The initial $75 goes to the Sheriff. So long as you were a resident of the county of issuance at time of application, you should be good. Do, however, update the address on your DL if you haven't done so already. Always carry your up-to-date DL with your CCW permit: carrying a state issued photo ID is required by law.

[FONT=TimesNewRoman,Bold]§ 61-7-4.2 That, on the date the application is made, the applicant is a bona fide resident of this state and of the
county in which the application is made and has a valid driver's license or other state-issued photo identification showing the residence.
[FONT=TimesNewRoman,Bold]§ 61-7-4.11(n) All licensees must carry with them a state-issued photo identification card with the concealed weapons license whenever the licensee is carrying a concealed weapon. Any licensee who fails to have in his or her possession a state-issued photo identification card and a current concealed weapons license while carrying a concealed weapon is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be fined not less than $50 or more than $200 for each offense.

Another consideration is when it comes time for renewal. If they mail the reminder, it will go to your "old" address. And the USPS only forwards first class mail for 1 year.

Hmmmmmm....

If you are, in fact, a LEO as your "tag" indicates you are covered by LEOSA and do NOT need a CCW permit. How can you not know this? (If retired LEO you should similarly be aware of how to qualify.)

Be safe.

I dont know where you live at but you might want to make real sure on that real quick. In Kentucky if you dont have your name and address changed on your driver license its a class B misdemeanor. But on a CCDW i dont know of any charge. But its different from state to state and area to area. But always good just to be sure.

My guess is you have to go through the process as anyone in the new state would do.

Louisiana passed a law last year that says any permit issued by another state is not valid in Louisiana if the holder is a Louisiana resident and does not possess a valid LA permit.

If you are a resident of a state different from the permit issuing state, then that permit is likely not valid. A drivers license is only good for so many days after relocation. It seems reasonable the permit would be invalid as well.

Gee... I'm not a LEO, but I knew this. It jumped out at me and I wondered why he even had a CCW. One question on LEOSA - Is it applicable in all states?
