Post-war 1947 K-22 Masterpiece w/pic. Other side pic added.

Here is my newly acquired K-22 Masterpiece S/N K156XX circa 1947. Gun is in excellent shape for 62 years old.
Expert comments appreciated!

Thanks and a big kudos to David aka DCWilson for sending me the beautiful high horn diamond grips from the right period. Folks, this guy was so nice he sent me these grips free gratis, but did ask for picture with them on the gun. So.......................here ya go David!

Very nice. My birthyear gun,in fact. Definitely in better shape than I am! If you ever decide to divest yourself of it,I have other early year models to swap. Kudos to David!

Beautiful K22

Congratulations on a great gun. I'm certain you will be pleased with it's performance at the range. I have a pair of 1948 K 22's that are real tack drivers.

Your gun is very close to my gun. My serial number is K155XX. I'm willing to bet that you're gonna love that revolver as much as I love mine. I honestly believe that it is one of the finest revolvers ever made by Smith & Wesson. When they decided to call it a Masterpiece, they were not exaggerating.

My K22, K87xx is a real rat but it shoots better than any new 22 revolver I have owned.

I would get it restored if I thought there is a Gunsmith that could do it right at a reasonable price. If I did, it probably would not shoot as well afterwards.

T.J., my problem is I have an almost obsession with owning 98% or better guns. I shoot 'em, but I keep them that way, then I get fondling privledges afterward.

Would I have liked a better example? Yes. However for $195 a couple of years ago, I grabbed it and have been very happy.

I have one almost just like it. Serial number is 485XX with a rather large "O" above it. Is that the letter prefix? Mine has the S&W TM/address block like later guns. I traded a Remington Nylon 66 for it in 1970. It has some holster wear but still shoots like a dream.

CX, you need to get the serial number off the butt of the gun, it should have a K in front of the s/n. With that large O, it sounds like you are reading off the yoke instead.
