I recently acquired this well worn m1917.
Haven’t fired it yet, but it will make it into the field rotation soon. Deciphering the serial number has been a chore, the under barrel number is most legible.
The grips are also unnumbered.
Any idea how post war (WW1) this is?

Max, you have a Commercial Model 1917 that shipped sometime in the 1920's based on the grips. Without a letter, pinning down a ship date for the commercials is iffy. They sorta dribbled out.

Wiregrassguy is right. I am on vacation and don’t have my SCSW 4th with me to check dates of specific engineering changes (design changes) but medallions on stock came back in1920s as well as stamped serial numbers late in the 20’s on inside of right stock. My serial is 184505. I estimate my commercial 1917 to be made around 1929-1930. The acorn shape of the extractor knob is also a 1920s indicator. The shape of rear sight and top strap is also an indicator of age but don’t recall the year of the changes. Perhaps another 1917 fan will provide more information.
