Post Your Pre-War K-22s

Below is my only K-22 Outdoorsman to date. It features King front and rear sights and was shipped March of 1938. Not sure why my photo is posting like it is. It is in landscape when I open it in any other program.

First up is my K22 OD serial number 632151. It's the 20th K22, shipped January 24, 1931. It was presented by Victor Wesson to Officer Joseph Gaudreau of the Springfield Mass Police Department in a ceremony at Smith & Wesson. He was awarded this revolver for apprehending armed robbery suspects after a foot chase and gun battle in November of 1930. The award was announced in the local papers in December. I don't know when it got it's 4" barrel, however, I've seen a number of revolvers attributed to Officer Gaudreau in company records. He seems to have been a friend of the company, so he could have special things done. The second is a new in the box 1st Model K 22 OD shipped to the Gardner Mass Police Chief. It looks to have been fired very little.

Don:

I really love those 4" K-22 Outdoorsmans (yours and Mikes). Great guns.

Thanks for sharing,

I own serial number 632157, and it shipped on January 17, 1931. So, even though it's serial number is 6 higher than your gun, it shipped a week earlier. Is there a way for me to find out what number shipped gun it is? I would love to know this small detail.

I think I am right about this. Weren't the .22, .32, and .38 caliber K frames all intermixed? Thanks.

Here's one with a set of John Culina's Lignum Vitae stocks. I have the originals, but the custom stocks feel and shoot better. When I had this one lettered, Roy said that there were no shipping records. He sent me a copy of the shipping record page which lists about 200 serial numbers ... five of which did not have shipping details. The surrounding guns were all shipped in June and July of 1938.

Have enjoyed this thread and all the great photos within. Took a couple minutes to snap pics of mine. First up is my first, got this a few years ago from Larry, the host of the North Olmstead get together.

The first one gets shot regularly and is nicely paired with an M&P Target

There were more than a half dozen 22/38's shipped on January 17, so you can't say which number your was exactly.
Yes, they were all in the same numbering sequence.

LOL at 67 I have to ask ..... "pre which War"?

WWII, Korea, SE Asia, Cold, Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, On Terror ??????

:D

I have one pre-Korea
one Pre-SE Asia and
one from the Cold war, pre Kuwait

Two of which fit this Forum!

If you read anything on the history of Smith & Wesson, you'll find they refer to prior to World War II as Pre War.
