PPC Revolver Pics

HBH 4 position rib

These HBH 4 position ribs are far superior to the old Witchita. They are the next generation. Start with a quick change rear blade to adjust width of the rear notch and return to zero every time. Next you have the 4 position adjustment screws. Each individual screw is click adjustable with known elevation values per click plus no little set screws to strip! Fully integrated Picatiny rail for running optics. At the front end you have a quick change front blade assembly. These ribs are extremely well designed and built. I buy them directly from a smith in Germany. They are not cheap. Completely kitted out with all 4 widths of rear blades and a couple varieties of front posts you're looking at $1000 USD. The only other 4 position rib even close is the Korth Super Sport. Same price point but are no longer in production.

The Beast

Here's a custom HEAVY barrel revolver I built for a friend. He wanted something one of a kind custom with some mass to it! The barrel started life as a 2" diameter Apex blank. I love shooting this one.

681-1 Wichita Rib

Bought this online and picked it up today. In the ad it said 38 Special but I knew better. The slickness of the action is just as I had hoped. There's no name as to who the builder was. Notice the ball and detent on top of the yoke. That was not in the ad. I'll try and figure out the Wichita adjustments out at the range.

PPC Revolver

Here's a few pictures of one I have on my bench right now. This one's heading out to the West coast as a Christmas present😉.
It's a slab side/ bull barrel hybrid with a full Diamond like carbon DLC and Tin gold surface treatment. A Korth Super Sport rib and beautiful set of Nills finish it off. The stainless steal still needs a final polish before it's ready for sending.

Strayhand ? guns was the best builder of the PPC guns that I tried out. They hand a coil main spring and was smooth as silk. I built mine with a Douglas barrel and a beat-up model ten, best gun I own.

This is such an old thread glad to see it's still going
I'll add another
This guy belonged to a well known PPC shooter that's a good friend and has won so many prizes and trophies...there were 3 he used, this was Number 1 and the best. I still bring it out and shoot it occasionally.

It's actually Strahan, Travis Strahan, legendary pistolsmith from Ringgold, Georgia. He was a gunsmith for the Army Marksmanship Unit.

Here is one of the two Strahan guns I'm fortunate to own.

Picked up on GB 14-3 with a .357 cylinder Aristocrat . Builder unknown, Great trigger, and tight groups, it's a winner. Why one when you can have two, Bill Davis Grade 5 Like new
Target shot with BD Gen.5

I shot the PPC course for a while about 40 years ago using a model 28. I been looking at the great guns in this thread. You guys have forced me to pick up an 1917, a 20" piece of 1"+ OD 45 acp barrel and an Aristocrat rib on Ebay. I have an assortment of ACP cylinders.

Don't spend as much time in the shop in the summer but I will eventually have my version of a PPC gun

Steelslaver, make sure to post pictures of the finished version. Not many .45 acp PPC guns out there. Larry

But it seems so logical, the larger caliber will cut a line that a 38 wouldn't quite cut, fast reloads with no speed loaders to mess with. Short cases for light loads. Between the frame, barrel, rib and underlug mass, the recoil wouldn't be squat.

.45 ACP PPC revolver you say… Here is the one I built on a PC 625 frame. I used this to make High Master class my second year competing. I still have it and bring it out once and awhile to keep guys honest🤠

I just got one, made off a 14-3. The frame s/n puts it at 1975.
It has no gunsmith marking so I have no idea who did the work.

I know the Mascot ribs were made by Travis Strahan, but I wouldn't presume I lucked into a Strahan-built gun.
The only other distinguishing features are the slot cut across the back of the trigger, and the pin installed in the front of the crane. I can't figure out what either is for.

Any guesses as to who did the work?

The two features you just detailed — I can say I have not ever seen before.

That cut in the trigger I cannot even imagine what that is about.

I would love to learn more about your revolver!

It sort of reminds me of my Behlert.

No Idea on the slot on the trigger. The pin in the yoke probably fit into a device on an underlug to keep the yoke locked more firmly in place, kind of like the ball bearing detent on some PPC revolvers. If the underlug wasn't on this barrel, then possibly on a previous one. Just my 2 cents.

KAC

Looking back through the thread, I saw one other gun with a similar… thing, and that's exactly what it was for. Thanks. I didn't think about it being for something that used to be there.

New Davis

I think KAC and Protocall design figured it out. Probably was rebarreled and dropped the underlug, trigger was updated to a set screw with rubber stop. In the old days we would stick anything on the trigger for a stop.
Had a shooting buddy pass recently. He was a bullseye shooter but had a ton of custom and accuracy based handguns. His son was gracious and allowed me to acquire almost any I wanted. I really didn't need another PPC revolver or any, haven't shot a match since 2015. He talked me into, HÀ! this one as he would have no use for it. Davis grade IV ? with both rib's, original case. If it has been shot, not much.
Brought into the fold..
