This is for my elderly Dachshund, Angel. Yesterday she began breathing very rapidly. It had happened before, but usually within an hour or two it would return to normal. Yesterday it didn't. She has a heart murmur and is also on thyroid meds. I took her to the vet later yesterday and was told she has fluid around her heart from the murmur. She was given an injection of Lasix and she came home with me with Lasix pills, to be given every 12 hours. The vet said she expected Angel to be breathing better by bedtime, as she would urinate a lot and get rid of the fluid. At bedtime she wasn't any better, so I gave her a pill. I've been up all night with her. This morning she is breathing very rapidly, hasn't ate since yesterday morning, which is very unusual as eating is her favorite thing to do. I just tried to give her another Lasix in a piece of cheese, and she won't take it. Again, very unusual, as she loves cheese. I'm in tears as I write this. I have been praying for her to get better, but it's not looking good. The vet opens in an hour, and I'll be taking her back in as soon as they open. Please keep her in your prayers. And I could use one too. My two Doxies are my world. Angel was adopted from a rescue organization. It was easy to see she hadn't had an easy life. But even so, she is the most loving, laid back dog I've ever had. I want her to get better, but if it's not possible, I have to realize it's for the best, and I gave her all the love and attention she could ever get during her two years with me. I will post an update when I can.
