Dating N frame Smith revolvers in this timeframe is iffy at best.
S159 may well have been manufactured in 1956, but may not have
shipped (read that as 'born') until 57, 58, or even 59.
A shipping date request (if you are a Collectors assn. member)
or a factory letter will be the only way to tell.

Lamweld, Allenframe is right but I do own one about 1200 after your serial number and it was shipped in Feb,1956. Does yours have a "W" mainspring?

This is S159453 and Roy says it shipped in Feb. '56 as well.
This one came with the "W" main spring...and yes, it's been cut down to 5".

I like it too, Jerry. It came with enough speckling to take it out of the "collector" class and make it a shooter. My preference for N-frames is always a 5" barrel so it wasn't hard to decide to make this into a barrel length I think the factory should have offered as a standard, like the 357 Magnum and M27s. (smile)
