I’ve got a 1950’s pre-27 five screw that’s “been around”. It’s been shot a decent amount and has been refinished. It also needs a new hand as it doesn’t reliably cycle. I noticed this evening while getting it around to go to a smith for the hand replacement that the cylinder is bored all the way through. There is no throat at the end of the cylinder. Is that normal for a “Magnum” of this age?

She’s an old girl that’s seen a lot, but I like her. Just want to get a better idea of what I’m dealing with.

Are you saying the cylinder holes are bored the same diameter all the way through? If so, can you insert a cartridge in the barrel facing end of the cylinder?

I have one of the same vintage and you certainly couldn't do that with mine.

That was my theory but I just tested it and cannot. For some reason I couldn’t feel it using a paper clip. I’m glad to be wrong.

Thanks much!
