After my recent obsession with Colt sp1's I dug out my old norinco AK. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was significantly better fit and finished than I recalled it.

Very nice! Never had any pre an AKs. Did have a MAK90, SAR 1, SAR 2 and a Hungarian SA-2000M I converted to standard capacity mags but they are all long gone.

Do you know the maker of the AK ammo? Looks just like what they were using in RVN. None of the 7.62x39 I run across is that copper washed type.

Looks like Chinese surplus imports. I don't think they went by names, just factory numbers

Probably this, I bought a quantity of this in the 80's and have been shooting it since. Still have a bunch of these stacked in the bunker. Inside the wooden case is two metal hermetically sealed "sardine cans" with the little twist ( tobacco can) key to open them up. This is good ammo. Would not be surprised what you saw in the RVN came from the same source.

I have a Poly Technologies Legend Series AK47S, with the forged receiver and fixed stock. One of my friends has the same one, but with the folding stock. We were told these were from the last shipment to arrive in 1989.

I bought mine because if I didn't buy it at that time, I might not get the chance to buy one later. It is still in the original box, and I have never fired it.

I have a preban AK74. Sorta kinda. It was built in the late 80s when 5.45 rifles were hard to come by. Built on a Norinco 84s 556 receiver using Bulgarian 5.45 front end and Russian fire control group along with a 100 series folding stock.

Pre ban AK

Pre ban Polytech I bought in the 80's, it has not been a safe queen. I have a several AK's from various mfgr's / countries. This Poly has probably the best trigger of any of them. It has consumed it's share of that Chinese ammo from my previous post.

I have this fixed-stock Norinco purchased in early 1989. Also have this ammo carrier loaded with Chinese ammo.

This is as close as I got to a preban. Its a early postban Mak 90 that still had the threaded barrel with spot welded nut. I added the Chinese pistol grip & rear stock & cut the weld to add the brake.
I love this gun!
