Pre-Model 14

I have a pre-model 14, 4 inch barrel, that was my issued service revolver when I joined the KCPD.
I was able to purchase it when the department converted to stainless.
The serial number is K292301
I have been told it was part of a limited shipment to the KCPD.
If anyone has any information about this model, I would really appreciate it.

Rare and difficult to find. I collect 14s and have seen one in person I bought, but returned because of condition. Knowing it was issued to you, it makes that gun very interesting to me. Have any pics?

My guess by the serial number it's from around 1956-57, wondering if it has an upper sideplate screw and a fish hook hammer.

The 4" narrow rib Model 15 was standard production then, the big difference will be the Model 14 in four inch will have a wide rib heavier barrel , the frame will also not have the notches that mated to the narrow rib barrel.
Interestingly there were small batches with 5" barrels produced in both barrel styles for PDs,
4" Model 14's are uncommon, I have a factory made four inch 14-3 from 1970 as well as several four inch 14-2 Hanen specials that actually use the heavier Model 10hb.

As an interesting side story the 15-4 was the end of the narrow rib 4" K38, the 15-5 was offered in various lengths with the old wide rib Model 14 barrel and the Model 14-5 went to a full underlug barrel offered in various lengths. ( kinda triggers my OCD as would have made more sense to continue the 14 line and put the new full under lug barrel on the 15 but thats just IMO).

This doesn’t really help you but may be of interest…
My KCMO Masterpiece shipped w/ 6” then at some point changed to 5”. No factory record or marks indicating return to factory

Presumably your shipped in earlier batch ?
