I have another thread about a pre-model 24. That gun was modified by cutting the barrel off to 4' and was nickel plated,"not by me". I decided to shine up the nickel with Flitz and Renasance wax and fixed the grips by soaking them in acetone and fixed the scratches and bumps. I also replaced the hammer and trigger that were also nickel plated with the proper parts. This gun turned out really nice.
My question is I also have a nice pre-27 nickel plated gun with a 3 1/2' barrel that is a little bit cloudy. It is not bad but will it hurt the value if I shined up the nickel with Flitz? I will not redo the grips. Thanks.

don't use too much pressure when you Flitz.

Use a soft cloth and go S L O W.

Nickel is not very hard

SOAK grips ?
Not sure about that, I believe it will swell the wood.
How long did you soak them ????

I have not found that soaking grips in Acetone briefly does any damage, nor does it cause swelling. But in my case, it's more a brief dip followed by a wipeoff with paper towels than a soaking.
