Does anyone know of a source for presention case inserts, NOS or reproductions? I have a friend who needs a bottom insert for a 6" N frame. Specifically 80's left facing. Any info appreciated.

1980s case liners?

Hey Kent J
This is the case liners type that was used from 1979-1983.

I restore these liners by recovering the plastic with a blue cloth. I also have a few extra liners I could provide!

Thanks for all the replies. jcelect I will talk to my friend and see what he wants to do. I may be off on my dates. The insert he has is a left facing one.

Email Address!

Hey usm1rifle, great idea! Joe prefers emails! However, the email address in post 5 has been changed!
swjframe@gmail is the new address!
Thanks to all that helped! jcelect(aka-Joe Cebull)

Here is a thought

Why not reproduce the plastic inserts? A mold would need to be made of each type insert but then the mold could be formed by heating plastic and vacuum forming it; the same process used to make magnetic signs for automobiles. Has anyone tried this?

I have researched doing this by plastic injection molding. EACH mold needed would cost $15,000-$20,000. In the type liner used from 1969-1974, would require a bottom mold for the 3.5", 4", 5", 6", 6.5" & 8 3/8" and 3 different size top liners. You will own the molds and need to find a molder that will mold small batches of each. Most molders that have a machine big enough to do the job want a min order of 10,000 pieces per mold change!
At the last Ohio Gun Collectors meeting there was a gentleman with the 6" bottom liner that he vac molds for $125.00ea. He suggested using foam rubber for the top, which is not correct, and when I ask about a molded plastic top he said it would cost another $100.00! That is $225.00 for a set of liners which need to be flocked!
If you have $250K-$300K to lose very quickly, call me! You will end up with all the replacement liners you will ever need!

I thought about 3D printing them, but like a lot of my thoughts I don't entertain them. Could someday retiring in Dec. need something to keep this evil mind busy!

Spare Time does not happen in Retirement

More space / storage / shelves multiplies "stuff" to fill available space.

Retirement causes more projects / things/ events to happen that need your time and effort. Your sub-conscious is 'unemployed' not retired. It is busy thinking of things for you to do with all this free time.

Your mind is like a bigger: garage, refrigerator, tool box, storage cabinet, or shelf. Everything becomes full or busy.

I am farther behind at 75 than when I retired at 62. I've been working on stuff for 13 years. 'Stuff to do' is growing.

jcelect, what you mention is a bit overkill though it may be an exact replica of the original type. I had in mind a simpler machine. This type thing can be built for lots less than the one in the photo.
