I was at an estate auction preview this afternoon. On the table along with other gun stuff were two presentation boxes, both for Model 29s. One looked like home for an 8 3/8" barrel, the other for a 6". The plastic/flocked liners were unbroken, and they had the pamphlets, etc behind the top liners. The boxes themselves looked new. What are these things worth? I'll be going to the auction on Wednesday, and may have to follow them.

l saw a 6'' case with all paperwork/tools go for a tad over $300 on a net auction awhile back. 8 3/8'' boxes usually go for less. At the top range they have to be perfect. You may get lucky

Rough retail should be around $150 per, as described, so try to get them at no more than half of that for it to be worth the trouble. You may sometimes get a little more. Another option would be to track down good examples of 70s vintage N-frames at fair prices then resell all together. Be alert as to whether the one box is a 6" or a 6.5".

If the liners aren't broke and the outside is in good condition we have a member up here that does the inside like new and it looks factory for a reasonable amout of money. So if you can get one for a good price that is the way to go.

There are too many issues to have a "one price" answer. What type case is it? Joe Cebull sent me a document quite a while back, that has the cases, and years that they were made. I paid $225 for a "C" case about four years ago for a 4" 29. It was in great condition, but not as new. As with guns; when was it made, how many were made, what barrel length, and how bad you want it. I will be glad to forward the document with the cases that jcelect sent me, however, it only lists the cases, when they were made, and nice photos, no prices, all coutesy of Joe. Just send a request to my e-mail and I will reply with the document as an attachment. [email protected]

I've bought several presentation boxes on eBay in the $75 to $80 range. Most of them didn't have papers or tools and the blue stuff was gone. Prices don't include shipping.

I managed to buy a nice one complete with all the paperwork and unopened tool bag for a 25-5 for $76+shipping. Like the others that I bought, the blue liner is gone, but the plastic is intact. I recently bought a 25-5 from a forum member to fill the box. :) I should have the gun tomorrow.

The paperwork for most guns is bringing $15 to $25. More if it's an uncommon gun.

If the blue liner is intact on the boxes that you are looking at, they would be worth more than mine. I don't know how much because I haven't seen many boxes on eBay with plastic liners that still have the blue stuff.

Thanks everybody - good info. I have never bought one of these because, frankly, I have no worthy hardware. I do have a friend who has a nice 6" 29 though, and one of these might make a cool gift. Amazingly, the blue fuzzy stuff in both boxes was just like new. There were two other boxes there that looked like the Presentation Boxes on the outside, but were green felt lined inside. Possibly boxes that had lost their liners? I'll see what it takes to get them.

Blackdeuce, from what you're doing on eBay it sounds like I better not get into them for much more than $45 or so. If I do purchase them, it will primarily be with the intent of re-selling them.

The man whose estate is being auctioned was a machinist at AC Spark Plug here in the Flint, MI area, and used to do a good deal of gunsmithing. There is a ton of stuff, much of which I couldn't take the time to fully identify. I saw what appeared to be all the parts of a BAR, but no receiver. His wife commented she thought it was destroyed as it was full auto. Damn.

If your friend has a 29, $75 for a nice box with intact liner and paperwork would be a good deal. You could probably get over $100 for one like that on eBay.

I shop for bargains and often buy stuff that I don't necessarily need at the time, so my prices are on the low end.
