Price Check on 581

I was looking at a local store the other day and the have a blued 581 on consignment. I don't see that many of these around here. It was obviously worked on as it is ported and has tritium dots and an exceptionally smooth action. The work done is excellent, but not indication of who made it. It does have a polished blue hammer, rather than color case hardened so I am guessing it was probably re-blued after porting. If so it was an excellent job. Has a 4" barrel, but non original grips. Asking $499. What are your thoughts?

Sounds like A good price to me for a shooter grade gun.

Even with those modifications it is worth the asking price but as always… it is used so offer less and see what happens!

Sounds like a great deal to me.

On 12/14/21 a 4" shooter grade 581 on GB sold for over $800. I had a max bid of $600 on it. I wanted it but chose not to bid higher.

Some would say the mods you mentioned would lower value but as a shooter not so much. To me the sights would be a plus, but I'm iffy on the need to port a full lug L frame.

It was at Morr Outdoors, but was gone when I went there over lunch. Just as well anyway, I have a 36-1 3" on layaway that I need to payoff before going for another.
