Ran across at the local gunshop a 3913 that is about 85% -they are asking $400.00.What do you think about the price?Fair or too high?Please any advice is appreciated.

3913's are getting harder to find and the prices seem to be going up. If the pistol is in fairly good condition, grab it up at that price. Is this one a conventional or the NL with the angled dust cover? I prefer the conventionals with ambi safety/decocker, due to being left handed.
Little bit on the high side of "fair". Box and extra mag on this?
There's been some nice ones here on the Forum now and then, but of course you're usually looking at FFL/shipping fees.
If you can get it for 400 OTD, it's probably not all that bad of a deal.

I'll be looking for one in about a month, and if I can find one for $400 I'll jump all over it.
I missed out on some former Israeli Police 3913's about six months ago. Dealer had eight at $309-$359 each. I bought a 39-2 instead, but wished I had purchased one of the compacts too.
Almost missed my second chance at one as the same dealer got a shipment last week of fifteen former Boston PD 3913's, I stopped in today and snagged the next to last one for $375. Slide is about 95%, frame 90% and grips 85% or so. I'd have paid $400 without blinking. One damn nice compact 9MM.
Buy one if you can find one.

Try offering them a little less and see if they will take it. I just got one that was almost like new in the box with all the manuals and stuff for $355. Your local market may be a little different, but it couldn't hurt to try and get them to knock a few $ off the price.

Two, three years ago, I found a 3913, unfired, in the original box, extra magazine, with all paperwork, etc. The price was $500.00. Right next to it was a 3913 Lady Smith, in very used condition, for the same price. I chose the unfired standard model. BTW, mine, like most, has been 100% reliable with any and all ammo I have tried.

Do a search on GunBroker to see what is available. There is a company selling some police surplus 3913s for about $435. They look to be in pretty good shape. The guns seem to come up quite often and they usually sell for $400-$450 depending on condition.
If the gun you are looking at has a lot of wear to the aluminum frame than I would pass on it at the price that is asked. If it just has some shiney spots on the slide than it is probably worth the $400 if you get two mags.
In general a 3913 in reasonable condition is worth $400 because the gun is somewhat unique and is a really good concealed carry weapon. I own a 3913 and I can tell you that it is impossible to praise it too highly. The gun is a pleasure to shoot and a pleasure to carry.
Having said that, I will admit that I prefer to carry my 457 because I like the lower pressure .45 over the high pressure 9mm. I have confidence that both will do the job if necessary.

Buy it. A few months from now you won't remember or care that you "maybe" paid $25 too much. Plus you'll get the pleasure of owning it for the time you would otherwise spend looking for a "deal".

I shot my 3913 (former Boston PD) last night. 200 rounds, 3 different kinds of ammo. Not one single hiccup and I printed a 50 foot range 200 score (20X, 15-10's, 5-9's) center mass 40 shot target to end the day. Best I've ever done with any 9MM I own. It will definitely be one of my concealed carry guns.
