Still getting more detailed info, but what would a NIB 629-1, 3" .44Mag be worth? And were there any other 3" 629-1's, other than the "Lew Hortons"?

Thanks.....

I saw a NIB 3" 629-1 on GB last night at $1000 and the reserve was not met. I just picked up a LNIB one for much less than that.
According to the SCS&W, there were 8000 3" 629-1's made in '86-87 for Lew Horton, product code should be 103610 but this number was used for other variations also.

Yeap.....I've seen prices on Gunbroker, but much like Ebay, it's hard to judge a pistol's "everyday worth" by what somthing sells for durring a "feeding frenzy" auction.
I'm still waiting for more info from the pistol's owner, like whether she still has the original combat's on her, still has the box and paperwork and whether or not she's truely unfired (and if so....I need to do some soul searching, because I'd buy it to shoot. How much would I hurt it's value by actually firing it from time to time......lovingly, of course

).
Any other oppinions?

I just sold my 629-1 4" non-LH for $500 plus $35 for shipping. The gun is in great shape and is a very accurate shooter. It "went" with the Smith presentation (wooden) case. The case had a broken hinge and the velvet had all been dry rotted away....but the orginal cleaning kit was still sealed in the package and the factory paperwork was still there. The factory grips were replaced with Houge and the factory grips were not around.

Still, I though the deal was "fair". Anyone asking $1,000 isn't trying to "sell" a gun....they are trying to "make a fast buck". I wouldn't buy anything from a fellow like that.

MHO.

BTW....here's a pic of the gun I sold:

I believe a range of price is $550-800 for a 629-1 3"...the range depending on a couple of variables, most importantly, does it have the original wood S&W combat stocks? If not, those go for $175-225 a pair if bought seperatly. The original box will add value too. Then condition of course. I believe there were 629-1 3"ers that were NOT distributed by Lew Horton; and let it be known that if its a Lew Horton or not, it doesn't make a bit of difference. Let us know how it is, and the price.

Ok, here's the scoop. I've got a "pre ban" AR-15 up for sale/trade. I bought it brand new back in 1991 for $700-ish.... Current value is kinda' funny because for those of us in a "free" state, it's no different than a current AR. For those "behind enemy lines" up in NY, NJ, Conn, etc.....it's worth more....probably as much as $1200 or so.
A guy has offered me a brand new 629-1 3"...never been fired, still wearing the original grips, complete with box/paperwork. Dollar wise......I'm thinking it's probably worth about $1000....but I'm asking here to see if I'm off.
Also, if I were to get her, it would be to shoot. How much of a price difference would there be between a "new in the box" piece and a "like new in the box", gently (and lovingly LOL) used piece? I'm not looking for another safe queen......that's why I'm getting rid of the AR!

Well, you see....value is what "market demand" and perceived lust is all about. Some guys just refuse to buy a post lock gun and some guys believe the LH pre-lock guns are the "Bees Knees".

But for me, if I'm going to spend $1,000 on a Smith, its going to be a Performance Center gun. Yeah, it will have the lock on it but that means absolutely nothing to me. Smooth triggers and accuracy is what it's all about. My M-29 PC 44 mag has been whackin groundhogs all summer out to 100 yards. Now....thats a handgun!

As much as I love 3" Smiths he'd still have to ponyh up $300-$500 with it in order to get a pre-ban AR-15, especially if it's a Colt.
There's no way that's an EVEN trade!
Just my 2 cents.
