My old (2013) Chevy turned 11 years old this year and I have been looking around for the past few years at new ones with no serious intent on actually buying one. The prices since 2020 to replace what I had were absurd - around $90-95k! I pretty much gave up and didn't look at all last year, but recently started again. Much to my surprise (VERY much...), the price to replace my truck dropped significantly so I found what I wanted and took the plunge.

The pictures are attached - it is a 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab with the Duramax Diesel and the 10-Speed Allison in LTZ trim. It came loaded for bear with a "Max Tow" package that includes the one-ton frame, suspension and running gear. That puts the towing capacity at the same level as the 3500HD single-rear-wheel model. The dealer kept saying "yes" to everything I asked for - including free lifetime oil changes and giving me a ton for my old truck - until I couldn't say no!

Honestly, my biggest concern is all the electronics with a fully digital dash and instruments. I realize that every new vehicle is packed with computers, but I fear it's going to be quite expensive to replace much of that stuff when it finally starts to fail. Frankly if you are tech-phobic then this is NOT the truck for you...

Wish me luck!

Nice! Yes there are huge differences between your old 2013 2500 and a 2024 2500, ypu should really enjoy it! I have a 2015 2500 High Country that I have owned since 2016, I love that truck!

Nice rig. Nothing like a new truck! I'm with you, though regarding those 'entertainment centers' they put in the dashboard now. Too much garbage. They tell you to not drive distracted....heck, how can you help not driving distracted it with that big screen that does everything but cook your supper. They build distractions right into the vehicles now-a-days.

There are a whole slew of vehicles out there I won't buy right now due to the electronic takeover of certain functions. HVAC is the big one; no physical controls, no sale. Touchscreen as the only man-machine interface is another. Non-defeat start-stop systems and cruise controls where you cannot turn off the adaptive function are two more.

You bought a beautiful truck, nicely styled and great color. I’m jealous!! Have a 2016 basic 4x4 Silverado with just under 60,000. Gonna take a chance and keep it for a couple more years.

My truck is solid red in color and looks like something Santa would drive. For 4 years I was one of the Santa’s on the Polar Express in the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. Did 10-12 nites a season.

Wife bought a Toyota Highlander Hybrid, the salesman scared me into the extended warranty which I never purchased before. When he said there was 22 computers and it would be expensive to fix, I took it. Consider the extended warranty if you haven’t got it yet. When her car is close to the extended warranty expiring, it’s gone. Larry

Congratulations! Nice truck!

Yup, gone are the days that a vehicle had a computer in it. Now they have dozens. Even the doors each have their own computer now. No wonder they're so darned expensive. They sure are nice as long as everything is working, though.

My how things have changed since my first truck - a 1972 C10. It had no electronics save an AM radio. The A/C was an aftermarket add on. No power windows, no power brakes, no power steering. Hmm...remind me again why those were the "good old days."

I know what you mean because I have a PhD in Distracted Driving. Back when I was a Captain in fire/rescue, my vehicle had 3 different radios, a MDT (on-board computer), a Nextel, my personal cellphone, a GPS, emergency lights/sirens/traffic control devices, plus all the vehicle controls. Everything was great but driving was the only part of the job I never liked!

Drive it and enjoy it. Vehicles have had computers for 20 years now. We are not getting away from that. Plus no surprise repair bills with the warranty.

We left with a new Colorado after seeing those $90,000 and up price tags.
Funny thing is we had to pay fifty bucks to order a manual on eshmay.

I dread the thought of a computer telling me one day, "Mr. Smith, there is a much shorter way. We are turning right now."

Like all computers, including cell phones, those vehicle computer screen things get an automatic upgrade, in my cars at least, and it (messes) with its damned controls. I'm still trying to get to learn my radio. I have my Sirius radio that really has gotten out of control. The dang thing keeps asking me to use Apple Play or some damned thing. Still trying to interface my Craig 8-track player to it.

Holy Mackerel Jon, that truck is the BEST LOOKING one I have seen in quite a while! I really love the color. Does Chevrolet do like Ford in naming their colors. Last Ford I looked at was “Jet Fighter Gray”! What kind of gas mileage do you expect to get? Will you have to carry a gas pump in the bed?

To me, what is the best thing about your new truck? IT IS NOT ELECTRIC!!!:D

Everything is an advertisement....

Everything you buy is an advertisement vehicle for subscription services. You have to get past all that whenever you turn it on to get to its primary function.

GOOD looking truck amigo, particularly like the color. Was a died in the wool Chevy man with old blue the past 23 years and 460,000 miles but it was time to downsize and I am now firmly in the Toyota camp with my Taco. That Chevy you just bought has thousands of miles and adventures ahead of it and I wish you the best in piling them up. Old Blue was all over the eastern US towing boats and kids and I would not trade those adventures for anything.

Thanks very much! The exterior is "Lakeshore Blue" and the interior is "Gideon and Very Dark Atmosphere". Don't ask me which is Gideon and which is Very Dark Atmosphere, however...

Using the on-board computer and setting it for a 50-mile average, I'm currently getting just a hair over 14 mpg, with the best being 18.3. I don't even have 1000 miles on it yet so it still has a lot of breaking-in left to do. It has a single 36+ gallon tank, so I theoretically should get 500+ miles per tank if I ever ran it dry.

So far the mileage is a little disappointing. My previous 2013 Chevy 2500HD Crew Cab 4x4 with the Duramax and the 6-speed Alison tranny could easily get 21-22mpg on the highway and averaged 17mpg combined. Fortunately, I don't drive much these days and am not bothered by fluctuations in fuel prices as much as when I was working.

This one is noticeably more (very much more) powerful than my last truck as well. I look forward to towing our camper with it.

You're gonna like that! I had a 2019 3500 Duramax with the tow package - I believe I could have pulled a house off the foundation. We had a 10,000 ib. trailer that I could take down the interstate at 80 mph and not even know it was there, and the thing rode like a luxury car. Enjoy!

I've got the Yukon SLT pretty much the same vehicle except no bed of course which makes little difference in its performance and reliability. There have been no issues with it after 8 years and I'd not hesitate to take it across the Country and back! It is an excellent vehicle and since they have been making them for so long, I would not worry too much. Probably one of their better models. I would take the Chevy (or GMC Version) over the Ford or Ram brands. I have NEVER had good luck with either of those two makers products. After owning MANY GM's, Caddy's, Buicks & Chevy's they have proven themselves to be great vehicles. I am going by my own life's experience - not what Consumer's Reports says. The last time I subscribed to CR's is when I bought a Toyota Celica which they touted to the best car in that class - well, it proved itself to be the worst car I have ever owed in my life! Sold it the very next year and dropped my CR's subscription! I now go by my own rating methods and life experience!

Good luck with it - it's beautiful!
