Found a nickel 29-2 local to me with no box or papers. Finish looks excellent with a slight turn ring. It looks like a 6.5 inch but he's saying it's a 6 inch gun. The part of the barrel in front of the lug looks longer than the lug itself by just a little, which from pictures I've seen the lug and barrel that extends past the lug are the same length. He wants 900 for it which seems high with no box. Thhoughts?

In todays market that price doesn't sound like a bad deal especially if it's a 6.5 inch barrel.

That's not a bad deal, like ...fyimo..said especially if it's 6.5 barrel. Measure from the front of the cylinder out..........................M*

We could tell you if you provide the serial number. As Mblhopo said measure from the front of the cylinder to the end of the barrel. 900 isn't a great deal but I'd probably pay that for a very clean 6.5" nickel 29-2.

It has the proportions of a 6.5" barrel. Both these and the 6" were made concurrently for a few years, but an earlier N prefix number (less than about 600000) is more likely to be the longer version.

No. Don't you have a tape measure or a ruler somewhere around the house?

p.s. Sorry, just realized that you don't have immediate access to the gun. :o

From what I've seen around here and what I've paid for similar specimens, 900 is just "another day at the office."

LGS has a 29-(3 or higher)- no pinned barrel, for $750. That's the first model 29 I've seen in a long time. If I saw that for $900 in my LGS, I'd probably jump on it.

Even if it's a 6", that's not a bad deal. There were actually a lot fewer of the the 6" 29-2's produced. Either way, you won't go wrong. Don't forget to post the pics once you bring it home! :D

The gun if clean with no issues other than being lightly fired , all original with no cosmetic flaws and will rate a solid 99% is worth easily 500.00 dollars more than you have been ask whether its a 6 or 6.5 inch. Throw away your tape measure and get out your pocketbook, your burning daylight.

Really? I must be looking in the wrong place. I haven't seen a 6.5 29-2 in a long time for sale

I have a very nice S pre-fix (is the one you're lookin' at an S or an N?) 29-2 with the presentation case. $900 wouldn't come close to buyin' it. Just sayin'.

Think of it this way, about 150-200 for the grips and the rest for the gun. I have that gun with pachmyars and I wouldn't let it go for under 900. If it is a gun you want go for it. But it is a beast to shoot with 44 mag, but a kitten when pumping 44 special through it. I traded for the gun a couple of plastic guns and am often tempted to just sell it off but what would I get for 900 bucks. Go get it.

I have a 29-2 blue w/6.5" barrel, 99% + no box....
I wouldn't take twice what they're asking for the nickel gun you're looking at.
You need to jump on that deal before someone else does.

BTW the pictured gun has a 6" barrel from my perspective.
Doesn't matter though because it's still worth the ask.
