Have you tried to buy any online lately? What worries me in the ones that say: Out of stock, no back-order.

Last week I just ordered 5,000 each of Wolf large and small pistol primers from Widener's. Their price is $95 per 5,000,they were in stock, however they do tell you up front expect your order to take up to 18 days to be received.
Yes I know I have Haz-Mat and shipping to pay,so I did also order some powder to spread out those charges. Still about 21.30 per 1000 for the primers if my math is correct.
For me the Wolf primers are working just as well as the Winchesters I was using.

A significant part of the problem is panic buying. The sky is falling and the heard is stampeding. Just remember back to the early nineteen nineties another self induced primer shortage. I bet there are individuals that are still using that stockpile.

I agree on the panic buying brought about by the results of 4 Nov last year.

For years now I have always purchased primers by the case(5,000) and powder by the keg(8lb.) to keep the costs down a bit. Plus to satisfy my handgun shooting needs I can get by with just 2 powders Unique and 231.
I didn't get much loading done last year so I am trying to catch up with it now.

I was lucky enough to buy primers before the price increased $10 for 5000. I got 10k from Winders for $75 case since I ordered two cases.

This week at the gun show primers were in short supply.

Primers here in Denver are running $26.95/1000 when you can find them, although I had one dealer ask $43.00/1000 just the other day, with a straight face, yet!

Powder and primers are in very short supply across the country. That's change you can believe in!!

Primers have been getting harder to find over the last 3 years. Prices for 5k of Winchester Small Pistol have increased from $60 to $130. All this was before Nov 4. The panic since then has only made it apparent to the rest of you.

I switched to Wolf a year ago. Less expensive and readily available in the quantities I buy.

All brands and types are $40/1000 at the stores here in town (when they have them) and they'll be happy to tell you just how lucky you are to be able to get them. I bought a pound of Titegroup powder to replace the empty I bought 2 years ago for $14.95. The new one was marked $20.95. By the time I got to the cash register, the price was $24.95. One store no longer even bothers to label the price of their ammunition. It's like ordering lobster. That's in contrast to shopping in general when almost everything else can be found "on sale" at considerable discount. Since the last great "primer shortage" of the 90's I've kept plenty of primers on hand.

Try Powder Valley next time. I just ordered 10K Wols sp primers on Mon.$90.00 for 5K along with some W231 powder. Their hazmat is still at $20.00 and only 8 days wait time. Don't go by what it says on their web site as far as availability. PV site says they're out of stock on the Wolfs but had them in stock.

In my area Winchester Small Pistol--$31.95 per thousand. Yikes!
Read about using Small Rifle as a substitute for the Small Pistol in the "Reloading" Forum.
Perhaps I will try that.

Yep. I went to the local crack house to pick up some CCI 200's. 31.95 plus tax. Last ones I bought, in October, were 22.95.

Went to the closest supplier- Gander Mountain- all they had in small pistol was one brick of Federal Gold Medal- $34.90. Usually don't buy match grade primers- but I bought it anyway because I had ridden 20 miles and hated to come home empty handed. Next time I'll try Widener's and pay the $20 Hazmat and get some Wolfs.

I asked the price on 1000 CCI large rifle primers last weekend at Bass Pro Shop in Nashville. They were $59.95.

I almost got rude with the clerk before I realized he probably had nothing to do with this. I did not purchase them.

+1. My gun dealer spouted off recently about how the libs are going to make primers disappear as a way of controlling the gunners.
If any of his customers buy into his fears, you can imagine thats what's driving the market.
So what to do? I'm down to about 300 primers before I have to resupply.
