Primers & Powder

Considering getting back into reloading. I have reloaded for my rifles for a number of years but life got in the way and I packed up all my gear. Things are leveling out and I am wanting to get back into it but now considering adding .357 .41 and .44 to my reloading. Can some one give me a run down on typical primers and powders for these 3 calibers. I am not a bullseye shooter so I dont need the perfect load but rather I would prefer to try to achieve some economies of scale if I can with primers and powders. I typically use CCI and federal primers and Allegiant and IMR powders.

W231 & Unique are good powders. CCI are good primers, but their small pistol have been scarce around here. Using Winchester & Federal.

Powder Valley has CCI primers and CFE Pistol which should work for 357 and 44. Dunno about 41 - check Hodgdon's online reloading data. Just google it.

For any of the mags, a medium burner for medium loads & a slow burner for full power. So think Unique to about aa#7. For the full power loads, 2400, bluedot, 4227, aa#9, lilgun, h110/296. All will run fine on any std primer. For h110 & lilgun, a mag primer for better ignition.m

WW-231/HP-38 (same powder) or Bullseye for target level loads, Unique for midrange, and Alliant 2400 for full up magnum loads. Unique can be used for target loads, but I've had better results with faster powders for that. I like midrange loads for when I want to know that I'm shooting a magnum revolver but without abusing myself or the gun.

Since you are looking for economy of scale, the four powders that I've suggested do not need magnum primers, even for full magnum loads.

Anybody's small or large (as appropriate) regular pistol primers will do.

Alliant Unique and 2400 will more than suffice for almost any application for these calibers.

I would advise you to start with Alliant 2400 powder and standard primers. It will work great with mid to full power loads. You don’t need magnum primers just because the cartridge is a magnum. If you decide you want a lighter load you will need a faster burning powder such as Unique.

Well powders that are available right now..231/HP38 and 2400 would be great if you can find it...if not , a powder I am seeing most of the time is 4227. Decent velocities with it and almost impossible to overload. I also use Unique quite a bit but it is surely not easy to find if you don't have it already. Primers...any standard primer is fine..magnums if you use H-110/296. I bought a bunch of S&B for a very good price(18 bucks M delivered) and they work fine. CCI mag pistol if I have to use magnums
