dropped in to my LGS/Range today. They had a small quantity of primers for $5 per hundred. Not unreasonable under the new normal. I didn't buy any as I didn't need any, but it was a hopeful sign.

Maybe this is how it begins to end, when sensible people buy primers when they need them, not when they can. robertrwalsh did a good thing.

How many primers were they allowing per customer? $50/k isn't as high as I've seen over the past 2 years.
We drove out to DesPlaines, IL last Thursday and stopped by Brownells in Grinnell, IA. They had CCI small rifle 400 and 450 primers on hand for $72/1000. We stopped by yesterday on the way back and they still had a pretty good supply on hand. Maybe we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm curious if anyone has seen any other brand than CCI primers for sale lately. I sure have not.
I have bought 1000 LPP and 1000 SPP in the last 4 months. Both from Midway they were both CCI.
CCI are the only pistol primers I have seen. Did see some Federal LR match primers about 4 months ago. CCI seems to be the only pistol primers around here.
They will continue to get my business when this is over, they seem to be the company that is able to get some out while the others just post YouTube videos.

Don't buy right now (unless you really need them) after a few months of sitting and collecting dust the dealer will have a big SALE and lower the price to move them . My gut feeling , even with government fueled inflation ... a decent price should be $45 / thousand .

Agree with GW above . If I'm to pay new prices then I want exactly what I'm looking for . If I want a CCI 350 or a Rem 9 1/2 mag thats it .

Several Stores in Wyoming had Primers. One had
reasonable price, one was a little spendy.
I passed on them because I Reload and have enough
stuff but, I got to thinking even buying expensive
Primers, it's still a good price at reloading my
own. I would say about half the price of the
Ammo on the shelf.

This primer situation is ridiculous! Local Fin Feather Fur stores in Ohio are selling 100/$11 and I think limit of one box. Other local same CCI primers are 100/$7 and allowed to purchase 3 boxes per day, that is when they have them.
Picked some Federals one day, the other day they had Match @ $8/100.
I just retired, I guess my new mission if I want to shoot is to chase primers LOL ..........Argggggh!!

FWIW - At this point CCI, Federal, and now Remington are all produced by the same company - Vista Outdoor. Winchester is the only remaining US made primer not made by Vista. I bought some Winchester small rifle magnum primers back in July at the local Sportsmans Warehouse.
I saw some CCI BR-4 primers at the local Sheels over the weekend. They were priced at $99 per thousand. It kind of sucks that their prices are so high, but the fact that retailers are finally selling at market rate prices means that scalpers and hoarders will throttle back on buying and allow retail stocks to replenish and prices will start to slowly drift back to normal.
I've said it before - we're one bone headed stunt away from being right back to no supplies or ammo. We all need to decide our willingness to gamble and at what price. Personally, under a hundred bucks/1000, I'm a buyer for a while longer.

I'm paying $45/Brick at Sportsman's Warehouse out the door (when they get them in) ... You sir got hosed by Midway. No disrespect.

Well…..while I agree that they were high priced I have not seen any pistol primers in my area in 2 years.
SW here might have the odd brick, but I have never seen one. Some people have seen a 100 primers with limits very occasionally.
I needed the primers so I purchased them.
Hopefully the next time I am getting short I can find some for $45 a 1000.

If you really need them I maybe understand....like you had none...but be patient...Right now we're all being hosed. These are the strange new times we're in right now. Hopefully things will get better in the future... Maybe....

I've seen the occasional rifle and pistol primers for sale, however shotshell primers seem to have gone extinct up here in northern MN. It's been over 6 months since I've seen any and even then the limit was 1 box (100 primers). If they do hit the shelves, they must be gone in a couple of hours or so.
With the exception of some CCI Small Pistol Magnum primers, I have not seen any rifle or pistol primers at my rural Minnesota LGS in the past 18 months. He did have those CCI's marked at $65 per carton of 1000. I paid $45 per 1000 for the last small pistol primers I bought from him. He could not estimate when he would have more primers in stock.
While not completely out of primers, I was running low and finally found Brownell's had CCI 500 for $75 per carton, limit of 2. I ordered 2 cartons. With hazmat, shipping, and tax, it ended up at $95 per 1000.
Do I like paying that price? NO. However, the price difference between the $95 primers and $45 primers is $50, and that works out to .05 per primer increase, or $2.50 per box of 50 rounds.
Do I let my $2000 Dan Wesson 1911 sit in the safe because I'm too cheap to pay an extra .05 per round of handloads? NO. I am going to enjoy my range time.
I do hope component supplies will stabilize and that prices will moderate somewhat. When I started handloading in 1967, a pound of IMR powder cost $3.50 per pound. It's ten times that now. I wouldn't be surprised that six months or a year from now the usual price for rifle/pistol primers will be around $75 - $80. I think the days of $45 primers are behind us.

Anyone who started reloading in the 60's - 70's has seen all this shortage business before and knows ... its a supply and demand thing . When demand is high and supply short ... the price skyrockets .
As soon as supply meets demand the cost ease up just a little .
It wont be untill supply has fully met demand and the market is glutted with primers that the prices get sensible again ... the Sales will start to happen ... when this happens ... stock high and stock deep ...It's OK to HOARD primers and powder .
Two shortages ago ... I saw the repeating cycle ... money was being made by all involved ... I didn't like it and when the low demand fueled Sales came around in the cycle ... ( I was near 50 then ) I Hoarded Up a lifetime supply of Powder , Primers and Wheel Weights (I cast too ).
Just yesterday I found a bag with 7 new containers of powders and 10 K primers I forgot I had purchased .
Wait for the prices to come down ...then go in full Hoarding Mode
My kids inheritance wont be in money but Gun Powder ... course they all know I'm insane !
