Pro model vs. Apex triggers?

Greetings. Have been considering swapping out my Glock 22 (again) for either a G19 or 23, simply because they feel much better in my hand. I fondled an M&P (again) and it feels really good (again).

The trigger feels like garbage on the stock models, and I know a lot of people recommend Apex.

However, I was checking out the Pro model and for only $100 more I'd get night sights and an improved trigger. Considering an Apex is $90 (to the best of my knowledge anyways) why arent the masses simply getting the Pro model instead?

Edit: Is the trigger on the Pro model not as good as that of an Apex?

What am I missing here?

Thanks!

Because the trigger in a Pro sucks as bad as a standard model. The only reason to get a Pro is if you want a 5" and it only is available as a Pro. Or, you want night sights and that's what the Pro comes with.

For example, I replaced the trigger and FO sights on my 9 Pro but it was still worth the extra $100 as that was the only was to get a 5" 9mm.

I have a 40c and a 40 5"pro. I had the compact first and did the apex kit on the trigger, great improvement. I really didn't mind the stock trigger that much except the reset was horrible. When I bought the pro I was really worried I would have to put a apex kit in it. the trigger isn't that bad and the reset is great. I will leave that trigger alone, I maybe got the only one that has a good trigger, but I am very happy with the pro trigger. I think to many people try to make their EDC piece into a target pistol.

Well, not so fast.
A lot of people, myself included, shoot the Pro in IDPA/SSP and USPSA Production without the Apex.

Coming from a revolver background the factory Pro trigger suits me just fine, particualrly after the trigger settled down with use just above 4#.

From what I've seen, the people coming from 1911 and 2011 custom triggers practically foam at the mouth about the "sucky" triggers and can't understand why they aren't like a 2011.

IMHO, for competition use, I rate
Standard trigger
Pro trigger
Pro trigger with a little TLC
Apex
Apex with a little TLC

and NONE are going to be the same as a custom 2011 competition trigger.

I'd be coming from a Glock background. Not looking for a competition trigger, but one for range/ SD.

Unfortunately finding a Pro model to dry fire in a store is quite a task.

The M&P Pro is most like a Glock34 to me. Long takeup on first shot, moderate reset length on follow-up, not nearly the reset feel of a 1911.

I have both the 4.25" M&P Pro with night sights and the 5" Pro with FO.
First time I pulled the trigger on the 4.25", it felt like sand. A shot of CRC silicone in the trigger and 1000 shots later, it is smooth and crisp.

All good info, I appreciate it!

For me, I wanted a 5" M&P with night sights. The 5" Pro has the FO front, which I don't care for. You can only get nights on the short Pro. So I found a new 40L which came with night sights. I installed a Wolff striker spring (cheap and easy) and got a decent trigger pull. As far as the Pro trigger, I didn't find much difference in the trigger feel between a Pro 9 and my other M&Ps, except the Pro's was lighter. The striker spring replacement put the trigger in the same range as the Pro 9 I used to own. There are options........

cfr; Do you want a 5" gun? That's really where you have to start.

Bear in mind too, there is the $90 Action Enhancement Kit that makes the trigger the best it can be with factory like parts then there is the $160 Forward Set Sear that transforms the trigger to something more like a 1911.

You are getting some good info here so you should be able to make a good decision.

Whats the FO front (fiber optic)? Its only on the 5?

Also, does the 4 inch pro model require a holser designed just for it, or would a regular holster work?

Glad I stumbled on this thread. I've been looking at the M&P Pro in 9mm specifically because it comes with a FO front sight and 5" barrel. Bouncing between the Pro and XDM competition but like the feel of the Pro better.

I've been a dyed in the wool 1911 fan for the past 30 years and this will be my first striker fired pistol. Good to know about the Pro's trigger ahead of time, although I can see an Apex competition kit in the future.

Most every holster designed for the longer models will work with the shorter ones. Even some designed for the 9/40 will work with the slightly wider M&P45 (my Raven Phantom is like that and I use it for my 9 Pro, 9c and the 45)

I just shot a Pro with the stock trigger over the weekend. I had forgotten what it was like, since I installed the Apex Comp kit on my gun about 9 months ago.

The new Pro series has a better stock trigger than mine did, which is a few years old. It's heavier and there is more over-travel, but i was able to shoot nice groups at 20 to 25 yds.

I plan on sticking with the Comp AEK in my gun, but I have friends that have already ordered the Apex FSS kit. it will be interesting to see what their idea of a 1911-like trigger is. Knowing Apex, it's going to be good.

I prefer the Apex stuff as well. the Pro is an upgrade over stock but I think Apex really hit a home run with this their stuff

No, I want this.

Thanks to all for the info!

Then you might want to consider sku 178035; 4.25" with night sights. In stock at Buds for $570. Or try to find a LE version (sku 3XXXXX) which will have NS and 3 mags.
