...I've replaced my 10mm M&P with a Sig XTen. The latter runs everything just fine, no mag drops or other malfunctions.
How is the XTen running? Do you like it?

I hadn't seen this thread but had seen several videos on YouTube documenting miscellaneous problems with the 10mm. I had convinced myself I was going to go with the XDM Elite since Glock seemed to be dragging their feet coming out the the Gen 5 20. (I'm a lefty and refuse to compromise on non-left-hand friendly guns.) But then I found a good deal on a used M&P at my LGS. The manager whom I know well said he knew of no issues with the gun except the former owner didn't shoot it much. Looking at the gun that was fairly apparent. Its as a recoil/cost of ammo thing for him. Anyway, having since seen a bunch more videos on solutions to M&P 10mm issues, I decided to go for it and that I'd just fix problems as they arose.
That was last summer. Fast forward to now. So far . . . no problems. I haven't shot the gun as much as my 9mms but certainly enough to expose any issues. I've shot everything from mild range ammo up to 220 gr. Underwood flat nose without a single FTF or dropped magazine.
I obviously do not know the real history of the gun and whether or not it has been back to S&W for repair. I did pick up a couple extra magazines from Primary Arms and the first time I used them the last round was ejected clear of the gun without chambering. No stovepipe. Completely clear. After the first loading, those magazines were fine. It makes me wonder if S&W started using stiffer magazine springs later production. I had read where weak magazine springs were a suspected culprit in FTF situations.
I haven't tried Double Tap. I'll have to see if I can get some and give it a whirl. The Underwood experiment was a bit expensive with almost $200.00 worth of ammo going down range for functional testing. It did shoot pretty well. The 220 grain stuff is kinda smoky. Perhaps from the coating?
Reading through this entire thread, I may consider a heavier recoil spring. My gun throws empties to the next count. But I can't complain a bit about reliability. The ergonomics made me fall in love with the gun have me considering adding a 9mm to my collection.
There is no visible intrusion that I can see.
Thanks! This one looks exactly like mine. Did you have problems with the mag drops with at least some ammo?Hard to get a descent picture.

(apologies, I haven't read the whole thread)
Try anything with a large bullet, e.g., S&B 180 gr JHP.Only shot 155 do far. Will try 200wfngc soon.

As to 200+ hardcast, I'm feeling cocky enough to pretty much guarantee that (if you're right-handed and if you load a full mag) on round #2 and likely #4 you'll get a mag drop.
All of my experiences are documented in this airtable:

Yup, the rounds alternate past the windows as they move up through the mag. It's funny you mention right handed. Every review of people like me who are lefties that i've seen say "No issues with magazine drops."
The 45 ACP magazine arrived! Now I could only get the extended 14 round version (which fits 19 rounds of 10mm!), but it did the job well enough for demonstration purposes.
First the side shot that shows the channeling rib being much lower and deeper, even in this angle you can kind of see the benefits (10mm on left, 45acp on right)

These two angles hit the nail on the head on the difference, the channeling rib compresses the rounds perfectly on 45 ACP magazine. There is ABSOLUTELY NO contact with the magazine catch with the 45 ACP magazine!

The other better design of the 45acp magazine is the longer feed lips, some believe that part of the miss feeding is due to the short lips (45 acp on left, 10mm on right)

Could you use the 45acp magazine with 10mm?
That's a big maybe, the 10mm rounds point way too high up, even with the 10mm follower. I might be able to bend the feed lips to correct for this, then will have a 10mm 20 rounds of 10mm furry

Just purchased a 4.6" 10mm and I'm experiencing the same issue. Went through one 20rd box of Underwood 180gr/1300FPS ammo loaded with Speer Gold Dots and had the magazine drop three times. This was after 50 rounds of S&B FMJ and some surprisingly hot (box stated 1200FPS) Federal 180gr FMJ.
Edit to add - date code on the box is 062722
All right guys, I have a test to verify the hypothesis that the fat bullet is hitting the mag release. Load your mags with the fat bullets or any that you have had mag drop issues with 5 rounds. 5 rounds is just above the mag catch and therefore cannot hit the release. Try several mags and several iterations and see if you have any mag drops. You can probably get away with six since the last round will be chambered and only 5 left in mag while firing.
Report results.
