just bought about 4 wks ago a S&W model 63 for me a Christmas gift for myself...:D Havent shot it yet, was looking at it tonight it got issues. You pull the hammer back then to uncock it I hold the hammer and pull the trigger as I ease the hammer down, in this process I could fill some metal rubbing the hammer went down but it was like it stayed cocked. the trigger and hammer was going freely?? I cocked it several times didn't do it every time but it did do enough to worry me about this product. any one had this problem or any ideas? havent even took it to the range and may have to send back to smith Wesson

Sounds like you are playing with the hammer block, which is going to stay down until you release the trigger and let the action recover.
Is this your first S&W revolver?

The hammer is turning on the stud so you will feel that, and as the gun breaks in that will smooth out. Also part of that feeling is because you are riding the hammer down with the thumb - you are putting artificial pressure on the hammer and may be pushing it to one side or the other - nothing that happens when you simply pull the trigger and let it drop. The rest of your description really does not give me enough of a picture for me to understand what if anything is wrong. At any rate, I would not return anything until you actually take it out to the range and try to shoot it. Either it shoots or it doesn't and as long as the cylinder cycles, locks up, and the hammer drops when you pull the trigger, I am not sure of the problem.

Good luck!
