57 stamping of model #. 59 10-1 intro heavy bbl. 61 10-2 change extractor rod thread on standard bbl. SCSW 4th edition.

57 stamping of model #.

This may be correct. The decision to use model numbers was made in the summer of 1957. Production of model-stamped guns might have begun before the end of the year. However, there is no known evidence that any model-marked guns actually shipped from the factory until sometime in 1958.

And unmarked "pre-" models shipped until 1959. I've got one :).

To expand on CCG's post, the Model 10 didn't "change" to the 10-1 as such; the 10-1 was the first Heavy Barrel. The standard-barrel Model 10 no-dash became the 10-2 in 1961 with a minor technical change.

I have not seen any listings of SNs at which any of these changes occurred. However, it seems fairly certain that the Model 10 yoke stamping began somewhere near C438xxx.
