I used to shoot a lot of archery, back in the 60's to 80's. Tournament level Field Archery and some International Target archery. The wife and I shot in an indoor league (20 yard) for many years. But all this was recurve bow, finger's (no release aids). Perfect scores were very seldom and only by the elite professional's. Today with compound bows with 70% let off, range finder sights. carbon arrows, etc., half the members of a club can shoot perfect scores.

Had to take PE in college, so archery was a no brainer. Fun, easy "A", and lots of girls in the class.

Being out west, we had a bow hunting class as a PE-100 option, so I took it and then cross country skiing for my other PE-100 requirement, because that's where the cute girls were found.

I bought a compound bow back then and used it as I felt the recurves were just too far behind the times. The let off then was 45% to 50% on compound bows and arrow speeds were in the 220-230 fps range. so it was a significant advantage compared to a 45 to 50 pound compound bow. Now let offs are in the 80% to 90% range and you'll see arrow speeds in the 330 fps range.

But oddly enough I now use a recurve, since I don't regard modern compound bows as being all that sporting.
