Hi all,

I have asked this question in a few places and never found a satisfactory answer. Several have recommended buying a "gunsmith kit." I am hesitant to spend money on a kit that may not even include a bit that fits well enough to preserve the screw to my standards. I have never come across a second hand S&W that didn't have the screws buggered to some degree so that approach is suspect. I am hoping to break the cycle with my guns.

Brownells sells a kit that has bits for everything except the most important screw in the gun. It is unfortunate that there isn't a bit marketed for the yoke screw specifically.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Go check out your local Harbor Freight or Radio Shack. They carry a set of five or six "jeweler's screwdrivers" in a plastic box. The largest one, about 5" long fits the S&W screws perfectly. Surprisingly, they are hollow ground blades, and of good quality.

If you get the Brownell bits, the following bits will fit the screws on the S&W revolver perfectly.

210-2....cylinder latch screw

120-1....screws holding rear sight to frame

150-3....older yoke screws

180-3....newer yoke screws

A couple of these are NOT available in the sets.Get a brownell catalogue or go on line and you'll find it all listed. If you have a problem, let me know...I'll steer you to it.
