Public Service Announcement - Don't Forfeit your Stimulus Check

I have seen a lot of Nigerian scam e-mails from princes, escaped generals and the widows of finance ministers.

But this one is so bad that I wonder whether some Nigerian late-night comedy host was trying to make fun of his country's scammers. On our next episode: Some Americans who actually responded! :D

Ministry of Silly "Talks".

Or

The Mrs and I qualify for a Stimulus check. I already filed 2019 taxes and the IRS direct deposited our refund, so I expected they would do the same with the COVID-19 money, as the Treasury Secretary explained.

Good thing I checked my email. I received this important message today. :rolleyes:

I saw on the news this morning that scammers are already working the Stimulus angle. They sure don't waste any time. I wonder if James will accept a collect call from a payphone. ;)

Perhaps a collect call from the FBI or an State Attorney General's office?

Asking for a friend.

It's obvious to me that s&wchad either is or has been a sucker in the past for these types of emails.

:eek::eek::eek::eek::D:D:D:D:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Yup, local investment seminar where they promised me dinner And a free TV. Something about sharing time. Dinner was lousy and they were out of TV's, so all I got was a cheap toaster. Cost me 3 hours of my life. :rolleyes:

My credit card number was lifted off the internet this week. Account was shut down and fraudulent charges removed, but my wife saw my CDNN bill and I could not tell her that was a scam! Look at your cards closely, they are more active and desperate than ever.

My old email address and a password I haven't used literally in decades was among one of the data breaches and that email address gets stuff like this all the time. Latest, for that past month is notices telling my Amazon Prime account is either expired or expiring because the credit card info is incorrect. I get an average of 4 to 6 of these a week and not one has an email address even resembling Amazon. Yeah these guys are stupid, but they know there are people out there that are stupider than they are.

I don't know; it seems pretty official to me. It looks like some good-hearted person is looking out for s&wchad's best interests.

We too qualified for the stimulus check but our 2018 & 2019 returns don't owe anything so no routing number filed. Anyone know if routing number is necessary? and is there a way to update or provide that to the IRS? or just wait and wait for the physical check? (I heard its much longer vs having routing/account number on previous returns)

We received a message on the phone's answering machine stating they wanted to send us a refund on my wife's insurance. They knew what insurance she had. DELETE

I worked with a guy (since retired) that lost his parents large house on Long Island (recently willed to him) and his life savings, to scammers.

If we are willing to launch a couple of million dollar cruise missles into the desert to kill a couple goats, I would be OK with spending a couple million to eliminate a couple of these call centers and message centers. I would consider it money well spent. Might raise the cost of doing business into the unprofitable range.
