The Goldthwaite Golden Eagles Marching Band, the Pride of Mills County, had their second annual "Pull For The Band" sporting clays fundraiser Saturday. Raised over $2500 and had a half-again as many people as last year.

What a great day! Great course in nearby Brownwood, TX. We've been blessed with cooler weather for the time being. You know you're from Texas when 95 feels great (compared to the 108 it's been for the last several weeks). Beautiful day and one of my best friends came down from Ft. Worth to round out our team of four.

Except we were five. One of the other band Dads brother from Dallas brought his seventh grade son along who had never shot a shotgun before. What a joy to be around a kid who's shooting for the first time and having a ball!

My 18 year old senior had a great day as well but shot on a different team than me. He organized a "student" team of band members.

Had our first home football game of the year the night before the clay shoot and I started my third year in the radio broadcast booth doing color for the games. I still pinch myself for living in Goldthwaite America.

Back in my long-past oilfield days, I used to pass through Brownwood frequently. Always ate at the Underwood Cafeteria, great food there. Is it still operating?

Underwood Cafeteria is still very much in business in Brownwood, Texas DWalt!

After the clay shoot we went to a local BBQ called Up In Smoke, in Early, TX after my son found it on Google Eats. And what a find! Absolutely fabulous place with exceptionally excellent BBQ.
