Found this gun by chance at a LGS. I was actually looking for a Ruger Blackhawk, and asked if he had a S&W 25. He told me no but he had this, a 629-1 6" Classic Hunter on consignment that the owner had bought new and never fired. It has sat in a drawer for the last 30 or so years. Has the box, cleaning kit(not opened), manual, warranty, and S&W wrapping paper. This is my third S&W revolver in the last 9 months. HELP!!!!!
!

Great gun! I have the -3 classic hunter with box and docs. Same gun, just re-released in 1991 with a run of 2000.

It's a great shooter, groups great with all factory ammo I've tried. Now it has some Ahrends retro combats on it instead of the hogues. I hope to get a deer with it next year.

Enjoy a heck of a .44!!

Classic Hunter 629-1

Congrats on the gun. Had two of them, now down to one. What did that bad-boy, set you back?

Unfluted Classic Hunter...

Congrats! Mine is a -2. You have a nice 44 now and it also has the cool factor of being just a little different than most 629's.

Those early hunters are beautiful, they are high up on my want list. They where very hard to find back in the day.
Congratulations to both of you.

Rahjerz, I have its twin brother. A 629-1 classic hunter new in the box. I had every intension of using it but everyday life got in the way. I also have a 686-1 classic hunter as featured in S&W 1989 Catalog. Never got around to firing that one either.

I have a 629-3 CH 6" that I picked up from a friend a few months back for what I thought was a great price. $525 otd
It came with a nice black Bianchi holster but no box or papers.
I have since replaced the rubber Hogue's with a beautiful set of N-frame factory stocks with the speedloader cut-out on the left stock. It fits my hand so much better with the wood stocks. Now if I could just find it's twin in .357 I would be one happy old man!

Nice find. The original owner of my 629-1 says he bought 2 guns at the same time. One was the 629 Classic Hunter and the other was a 686 Classic Hunter, both 6 inch. He claims the .357 recoil kept him from firing the .44 Mag and it laid in a drawer for 26 years unfired.

Did you buy them as a pair? The owner of my 629 says he bought a pair of Classic Hunters, the 629 and a 686 at the same time. Made me wonder if they were some kind of promotion from S&W.
