Qualifying with a 340PD

I have a 642, though my "web bleeding experience" came from my larger 627PC when using the beautiful stock Walnut grips. After 50rd of my 1370fps .357 reloads, it was just too much. I now have Hogue grips on it and am much happier. ;)

IMO, no matter how good looking a set of grips, it is NOT worth such a painful experience... :(

I've got a 340 as well. I've drawn blood with it too. Part of that was my grip.
For after markets, do you need Speedloader compatability?

I've used the Hogue tamers, which made shooting the revolver much more pleasant. But it was a but bulky for CCW IMHO (YMMV).

I found the Pachmayer Compac to be slimmer and easier to carry and still comfortable.

Neither grip worked with Safariland speed loaders, but they worked with Speed Strips.

I'm looking into Crimson traces for the next set, you should check them out.

I have the same issue when shooting the 340PD.

I'll end up bleeding after some number of rounds.

I like the two-piece boot grips that Smith is using nowadays and use those.

Putting big'ol grips on the gun would help but would greatly compromise pocket carry.

So...I do most of my practice with a Smith 640 and only occasionally shoot the 340.

When I do shoot it, I resign myself to the fact I'm going to bleed a little.

Had a 340PD for a number of years. +P's are my usual carry load. Someone mentioned above Herrett's. I just recently found a pair (the J frame RB ones are a tough find though). If you prefer the wood look and feel they do give you more grip than stock J frame RB woods but not too much which can still easily slip in and out of a pocket.

That’s how mine is set up, but I added a TGrip and sanded the bottom a bit for better pocket fit.
