I have recently purchased a 5946 which I believe came to me with a 6906 size guide rod. Personally I would not have expected this to work and seller believes same. Seller replaced barrel and fired to check out before shipping.
In fairness I had a 5943 apart on different desk at same time and though I doubt it, it is theoretically possible the short rod was in the 5943 - but it would have been wrong in that gun too - also I have pictures of the 5943 with rod protruding before I purchased it.
Guide rod tip is beat up producing somewhat of a chamfer as is inside of guide rod hole in slide. Pistol assembles without issue, but guide rod does NOT extend thru hole in slide. Pistol racks without any sign of interference.
Picture of short rod from 5946 next to worn, blued guide rod from 6944. Pictures of inside of 5946 slide.
So HERE is my question, has anyone ever seen such a problem and what is the consensus as to whether gun would fire more or less normally with chamfered rod.
I have ordered correct rod and do not intend to fire with wrong rod - just trying to figure out if it has been fired this way and how it would perform - obvious signs of problem, etc
This is not an attempt to beat up seller - he is sending a replacement rod - just trying to figure out how this happened.
