Last week at the range the spring and detent on the slide stop flew off my Model 39-2 clone out while I was firing for qualification. It caused the slide to lock back after each shot. My Model 39-2 clone is an aftermarket stainless frame fitted with Smith parts and a Model 39 upper half.
This is the first time I have ever seen or heard of a S&W slide stop coming apart and I've handled and shot quite a few different Smith and Wesson models over the years.
My question is does a new/replacement stop need to be fitted or adjusted or is it a drop in piece? The cost of purchasing the spring and parts plus shipping cost as much as ordering a used part off the internet.
Your response is greatly appreciated.
